My co-worker translated the Chinese as something like “Restaurant Here.”

      • B. Phil says:

Literally, it translates as “Dining Room”, which I’ve seen used to mean “Restaurant” in places like hotels where the eatery is attached to a larger business.

That said, having seem some of the weird results that come from feeding Chinese into online translators, Not Using A Chinese-English Dictionary Fail XD

the thing is, the error message on the program, that they were using to translate the text into English, was in English

  9. atomsk says:

I actually submitted this one too :D

  10. djspazy says:

    lmao i think i actually got that…
so you’re saying the company used a translator program to translate its name into english. the program spit back the error, and they thought that was the translation so they used it for their sign.

  11. Me says:

Thats right. It was a translation for a restaurant by the way.

  12. Delios says:

    You are witty my friend

  13. WWWWW says:

Yeah, it’s a fail…like if it spit something out to most of us in chinese that said something like that, we would all totally catch it. Yeah.

Just like how I saw a comedian mentioning that all of these foreign language tatoos people have could say crap like “beef and broccoli” instead of some meaningful saying.

  14. Karen says:

Can anyone actually translate the — is it Chinese?

    • Hegemon4Hire says:

Yep, Chinese. It means “restaurant”. The good old “Translate server error” restaurant. Damn good dumplings at that place.

      • Karen says:

Thanks – and to everyone else who gave the answer as Restaurant. :-) And to everyone else, why would anyone put up a sign in a big metal building that said “Translate Server Error?” It’s so obvious that the translation was the “boo boo.”

  15. [dangeruss] says:

WHAT IF IT DOES DAY “TRANSLATE SERVER ERROR” IN CHINEESE.. THEN ITS ACTUALLY A WIN

  16. Hegemon4Hire says:

    The Chinese is “restaurant”.

It means restaurant in Chinese. Simply that. So it’s a FAIL.

  18. Mr. Cool Ice says:

Well Copernicus, it does “day” that. I just don’t think they meant to “day” it.

  19. Laura says:

This made me laugh, thanks a lot!

  20. CS says:

The two chinese characters simply means “Restaurant” in direct translate, and nothing to do with the “server error”. Lolz.

  26. Mike says:

It’s strange to me that the error was returned in a language different from the input language…

    • Ignuz says:

it sais: “server”, so it probably wasn’t a program running on a computer, but a sort of online translation website. So good chance that site was in english.

  27. Dr. Failbait says:

    Fail.

  28. Name (required) says:

    a failure on many levels…

    Hahahahaha!! LoL

    Nice Fail!

  32. Sweet Sister Morphine says:

    [sob]

    It’s beautiful.

  33. Ave says:

The Chinese word literally means: “Meal Hall” or “Canteen” not “Restaurant”. That would be “Chan Guan” while its “Chan Ting”in the post.

How it becomes “Translate Server Error” is a even more of a fail than it being a stupid signboard for a food canteen.

    • The Anonymouse says:

If people actually read half the previous posts, which you need to to scroll down this far, they would see that at least a dozen people have translated the sign for us, and none have found it actually does say “translate server error”. By the way, david and fepic ail, what on earth is a lul?

  34. Llllllllllllllll. says:

    rosie o’donnell fail

  37. bboyacid says:

gosh the chinese words mean “restaurant”.

  38. carth says:

O rly? And best engrish ever.

  39. adamant628 says:

This was mentioned on the radio. The restaurant wanted to put up an english sign to attract people to it during the olympics. They put the name into a website translator, the server failed and gave them the error. They thought it was the english translation so they used it.

  40. somebody hacked into that sign, no doubt.
