FALSE. Macs get a better average framerate on the same games (usually). Take WoW for instance. 2.5x the performance of Winblows.
For those games that have not yet been ported to OSX, there’s this invention called…wait for it… DUAL BOOTING! DUH! I play Crysis on high gfx settings and get around 80 fps…. ON A MAC.

Wow, you are a complete and utter retard and obvious have never tried playing WoW on the same machine running Mac OS and windows. With the same settings I would average about 50-60 fps in MacOS and 90-100 in Windows XP running WoW on my Macbook Pro 2.4 GHz Core 2 Duo with a 256 MB GeForce 8600M GT. So I don’t know what sort of crack you’re smoking.

Where are you getting your stats? Also, you do realize that of course the base mac is much, much, MUCH better than the baseline standard PC. But it’s also much more expensive. Without Windows, there would be no macs. Windows perpetuated (and continues to perpetuate) putting a computer in nearly every average american home.
As for viruses, eventually macs will be just as susceptible. As for now, no one spends the time to create a mac virus because of the small percentage of mac users.
Macs are great for some things, a la video, photo and sound editing/creating. But how often do you legitimately need to do something in that field that you can’t do on a PC? Get real, a mac is a status symbol.

Apple is still ahead. They did not leave security out just because they have their solid Unix base. Apple already has layers in their OS to prevent the damages of trojans and malware and other melicious software. They have their own people having fun trying to hack it so they can improve it. As far as I know, as soon as Apple gets half the market, it will be much MUCH harder to write a Mac virus then a Windows virus.
There are plenty of Macintosh exclusive programs because it didn’t work well in windows. World’s most expensive music editing software costs 4 grand and is only for Macintosh. The choice of Professionals for video editing is Final Cut Pro, a Mac exclusive. It’s not just having a computer. It’s the feel of the OS, the organization and security of the files, and the execution of the tasks its given. speed on a game sucks if it crashes on you all the time. That’s why I test my stuff on Macintosh most the time.

Trying playing a game? Call of Duty runs fantastically on my iMac, I’m almost positive you don’t know what you are talking about, you’re just biased. Downloading things on Mac are quicker then on Windows, I’m sure you love Vista don’t you.

Playing a game: Games are now for Macintosh as well as Windows for almost anything. Steam/valve is cross platform; Stepmania is cross platform; SNES9x is cross platform; Marble Blast Gold; OpenITG; and MANY MANY MORE. PWND.
Good for videos and music: Quicktime and iTunes, which are included with the computer is better than Windows Media player. WMP sucks to all hell. iTunes is a 10/10 while WMP is 1/10.
Good for photos: iPhoto. Windows has tried to copy this in vista by having an integrated photo manager. This ultimately failed when it took up too much ram just for the computer to remember it’s there. Just another way Windows failed. It took windows years to get a program like this, and when they did, it was not even half as good as iPhoto.
Downloading: If you cannot download on your macintosh, this only shows how much of an idiot you are. You download on a macintosh the same way you do on Windows. You click a damn link after navigating to it in your web browser (Safari).
I heard that Balmar actually did this in Keynote, not Powerpoint, which is part of Apple’s iWork. It’s an office suite that costs less than half of what Microsoft office goes for. In fact, while iWork Family Pack is 70 dollars, Microsoft office single pack is way up at 130 dollars. That’s rediculous.
that’s not even half of Macintosh. Keep in mind that I kept this to what comes with the Operating system and a 1st party office suite.
Windows sucks. 200+ for a useful version, while MacOSX comes at much lower. Snow Leopard was only 30 dollars, and the same disc could do an upgrade or clean install. Windows simply doesn’t offer that. they fail all the time. No wonder Balmar uses an Apple computer.

Actually, neither Bush nor Tony Blair etc. are pulling the strings/calling the shots in American or British foreign policy. The idea that our elections determine anything at all was firmly put to rest in 2000 when our election was hijacked. Bush, Blair, current P.M. Gordon Brown – they are just figureheads, reaping a certain amount of financial benefit from the position, and in the case of Bush and Blair, front men. The REAL power lies with the multinational corporations, who are answerable to no one. The myth that the American people (approx 281,000 in 2000 census) are of one homogenous mindset, one political opinion, one level of education or tolerance/intolerance, is a mistaken view. Witness the 51% who did NOT vote for Bush! Many people I personally know are vehemently against the war in Iraq. Some of them protest, stand outside in cold & rain, etc. to make known their opinion. (Not me, I am physically disabled). These people are not concerned with the patriot/traitor labelling war that has been propagated by the current administration. I can be loyal to America, appalled at 9/11, want the perpetrators brought to justice (whomever they are), equally appalled at America’s blatant intervention in the governments of many foreign countries to suit it’s financial benefit (starting just after post WW II, leading through the 50′s and 60′s, & up until this very day), horrified at the terrorist activity all over the world, but more than anything, I am loyal to the Constitution of the United States. (Damaged and betrayed as it is). We, the American people, have had our Rights (which a few short decades ago were proud to advertise) abrogated. And, most of our people have been hoodwinked, or hypnotized, into believing this curtailment of our freedoms are good for us. In the name of SECURITY. (Perhaps some Americans are just too stupid to notice that they were taken from us during the past 20 odd years). We, the People, don’t have a damn thing to do with what our country does.

Oh by the way Mac’s are awesome! I bought a MacBook just for the hardware and I was going to run Window’s on Bootcamp as soon as i got it…Guess what?! I stayed with OSX not only because it’s easy but because all the bloatware (I.E. programs that suck and don’t work), unnecessary forms of a program designed to do something then do it completely wrong, and extremely annoying viruses are a thing of the past. Yes I have to bootcamp all the games I want to play but it’s worth it at the price of having a more sophisticated os, plus I still have Finale, Microsoft Office, Adobe Photoshop, not to mention all the OSX programs like Aperture and Ilife. Oh by the way all you microsoft fan boys look it up a laptop with the same hardware from sony is the same price as a macbook, or if your going for something that rivals a MBP Alienware computers are awesome but extremely expensive. Mac rocks end of story.

I think the idea is that Microsoft choose to use a Mac computer, whether or not they have MS Office or even a Microsoft OS running on it, fact is they are still using Mac. You could have any brand of laptop running Microsoft apps and/or OS – Sony, Dell etc.. but fact is, they chose to use Mac!! ha ha ha

I’ve never really had an opportunity to use Vista, but I’ve tried 7 (which is built on the same core) and on an old computer, too…I noticed a marked improvement in performance over XP…in other words, 7 was faster than XP.

But: mac os x is Unix. Unix is self-secure just because use an ancient (40 year) security layout based on users account and security privileges. the same happen on windows since win-nt but they use an flexible layout wich give a normal user administratives capabilities. Inaccurate explanation fail. Neither user/group nor ACL based permissions are inherently more or less secure, despite what anyone may say. It’s how you use them. For instance, Ubuntu gives the normal user admin capabilities, you just type in your own password again when you need to do admin stuff. But most exploits are NOT due to lax user privilege restrictions, they are due to BUGS. Microsoft has more BUGS and they don’t fix them as fast, that is the real reason it is easier to write a virus for Windows.

History fail. Windows is built on MS-DOS–an operating system designed at a time when a computer was a “one-user” machine. Some people didn’t anticipate using them in networks and so security was not built in. When networking and the internet came along, security had to be tacked on rather than built-in; their installed base was too big to move. Microsoft has been trying to tack it on ever since. Conversely, networking and the need for security were givens by 1984 when Mac OS came along. It has always been harder to hack Mac OS for that reason, so no one wasted the effort.
It’s still difficult or someone would have done something on a scale like Blaster or Sasser already.
History fail fail. Windows XP and Vista are not based off of MS-DOS, they are based off of NT, which was built from the ground up as a networked server OS. The last Microsoft OS to use MS-DOS was Windows Me (may it burn in Hades).
Problem is that the NT systems are still based off of the same user setup. A retarded monkey could install something without the admin’s permission onto a NT system and royally screw it up, while on the other hand a unix/linux based operating system has to have root access, or administrator access for all you nubs who have no clue what root is, to change any system files and accomplish what a normal virus sets out to do. The only real way you get easy virus access like you would on a windows box is if the person who set up the unix/linux OS logs in as root every time he boots, which is just idiotic.

First Mac (released in 1984) didn’t have networking (at least in the OS itself). No networking or security were in the original design, they were just hacked above the mess the classic Mac OS was. Also note that Mac OS 9 != Mac OS X.
You can still get viruses if you are running Windows on your Mac. But they only affect the Windows partition of the hard drive.

A top of the line PC cannot cost more than a Mac of equivalent power because such a beast of a Mac does not–cannot, because of the way Apple does things–exist. The video processing alone on a top of the line PC would rival the processing power of the CPUs on high-end Macs. (Yes, there’s really that much oomph in a setup with triple GTX 260s.)
I’ve got a top of the line iMac (3.0 ghz quad core) and it is amazing. I also have vista on a laptop and it is amazing, but for a different reason. Vista is the worst thing microsoft has ever done.

You are possibly right, and I know that a top of the line PC can be anything. THe best PC in the world, if you bought the best (and congrously expensive) parts you could be paying in up to 5 digits. When I tried to do virtually anything on any of the six Macs I’ve used at work, they’ve exploded (metaphorically, at least). The last one I used was the best – in the three years I used it, the hard drive only crashed once, which made it about twice as reliable and durable as any of the others.
Thankfully we’ve recently switched to Dell laptops so I can do things like use web browsers without having them crash “unexpectedly” half a dozen times a day.

Huh, when I put Vista on a Mac I was actually able to run the software I needed for work on it. Then I missed my right-click button (and don’t go telling me that “ctrl-click” is just as good, because that requires two hands rather than one finger), sold the Mac and am happily running Windows.
A usb mouse with 2 buttons still works on mac. I use both my mouse buttons in MacOSX all the time.

This is a failed analogy. the beachball does not indicate an inevitable crash, freeze, stall, or even shut down. The beach ball simply means that the computer is processing requests. I have seen this beachball. Every single time, it’s gone within seconds. If I have many applications over, it may take a few minutes. However, it has never actually crashed the system. So it should really be the Beachball of Patience, not death.

Saying that Microsoft’s CEO tacitly endorsing their main competitor’s product whilst lecturing about business leadership is not fail is kind of like saying there’d be nothing remotely fail about Shigeru Miyamoto demonstrating the library of SNES games available on Wii by publicly emulating them on a PSP.
The only question to my mind is which group are more fail – Microsoft for helping Apple sell one of their flagship products, or Microsoft users who still rush to their spouses defence after decades of “falling down the stairs”…

Giving your competitor a thumbs-up = bad idea. But Apple and Microsoft aren’t competitors in hardware. If he was running OS X on the computer, yes, it would be a fail.
All this is, is a nod at them saying: Yeah, your hardware is pretty good.
Miyamoto and Nintendo are fighting against Sony in both hardware and software, which is why endorsing Nintendo software on Sony hardware is bad, because that could move market shares from Nintendo’s hardware to Sony’s hardware. However… If Microsoft endorses Apple hardware, it’s not as if people will instantly start buying less microsoft hardware… as Microsoft doesn’t make hardware.

Most of the speakers, including MS people, were using MacBook Pros … but they were running Vista under BootCamp. They deemed the machines to be the most solid with Vista. FWIW, I never tried the Zune, as isn’t even avaliable in Europe, but that fact, in and of itself, is preety telling about its overall quality and popularity.)
Maybe Zune doesn’t have a web browser or cover flow… but those are the only true advantages of iPod Touch over the second generation Zunes in my opinion. The touchscreen just says “fingerprint magnet” to me. As for the iPod Classic and all the other variations that have the wheel, they all fail compared to the second generation Zune. What good is a circular control for navigating a linear GUI? I enjoy a world where up means up and down means down… it’s more “simple and intuitive” (to borrow key words from Mac vs. PC) than counterclockwise means up and clockwise means down. The WiFi Zune-to-Zune transfer isn’t that important to me, but the wireless syncing is a great plus. I still have yet to see a Zune 80 in stores, but that’s because they’re selling as quickly as stores can get them in stock. I have, however, seen a display full of unpurchased iPod Touches.
Funny, but I think that’s actually a photoshopped Dell – apple never made a two tone black and silver laptop – then went straight from black to silver to white, always ALWAYS solid colors (except for the hobbit iMacs, those were the only colored and two-toned apples)

We use nothing but Macs in the graphics department where I work. About 300+ Macs. This is now hanging on the wall.
My husband works for Microsoft and from some of the stories I hear, it’s no wonder they’re using Apples. He has an Apple and a Linux box on which he does his “real” work. If MS wants him to do something specifically for MS, he uses a PC with Vista. LOL

That is NOT a MAC computer. It is a dell or something with that apple logo pasted, photoshoped into it. There is no mac that looks like that computer. Which means the apple logo was pasted onto a windows laptop probably AFTER the event in question….

I hate to point out the obvious…but MS is a SOFTWARE company (as has been stated before in this thread). Windows is NOT their only product. They sell mac specific software, such as Office for mac. In fact, MS Word was originally a mac software. It was released for mac four years before it was released for Windows….

Mac makes better laptops. you dont ever build your own, and when you want to upgrade you buy a new one. this is their buisness model for both laptops and desktops, but it only works well with laptops.
BUT their desktops are overprices and become worthless within a few years with no way to recover them. (replacing parts with more up to date ones)
Microsoft makes better desktops. You can upgrade them when parts get out of date or if something brakes, and you can build your own.
BUT their laptops suck becuase the parts they use for pre built computers are generally sub-par and break very quickly.

I have some bad news for you squabblers. They had the mac so that they could run Mac keynote. My Brother-in-law did tech support for the show. The presentation hardware was coupling properly with vista when they were doing setup. One of the guys had a Macbook, and they exported the show to use in keynote. The presentation hardware worked fine with the Mac. You may continue to squabble for as long as you like, but its settled. Major Microsoft Fail

All the idiots at our uni who can’t actually use software have purchased macs because of their stylish ‘identity’, they have more money than sense. You can easily create a PC with identical specs for about half the price.
And when you get one of the graduates who’s barely managed to make it past uni with a 3rd working along side with you, or you’ve hired to make a website – I really, really feel sorry for you. I’d never trust someone who has plastered their Mac in ‘ironic’ or ‘hilarious’ stickers to do anything for me.

Saying that I also know quite a few people who use macs because of they’re capability to run software slightly more efficiently. I’ve used both, I mainly use Macs for software (like 3D Studio Max or audio editing or software that may not have been released on the PC) and use PCs for my everyday usage. I just hate seeing people buy Macs because they’re ‘better’ – a lot of the people on my course who are failing but have a lot of money have Macs, simply because they do an equal amount of minimal, crap work on whichever computer they use.
Besides, it’s not the tools you use, it’s how you use them.
ok well just to kick this off microsoft is not a computer its software second of all i am on my junior year of college for a computer support tech and many apple users actually have a dual boot such as windows xp so they can have a shot to play their games and actually be able to choose where they want their files to go not just drag and drop and oh man i just deleted the only copy any way the picture is photo shopped drag it in and set the contrast low you can see the shade marks so keep going mac fans you guys crack me up with your cool games such as chess and checkers the only thing mac can truly play since mac hasnt came out with a computer platform that can do anything besides not let you do anything to it atleast microsoft lets you change anything the reason why people get the blue screen is 93 percents its their fault why mac dont crash much because you cant do anything to it at all you dont own the mac it owns you well have fun

I know of some unique interface application that allows Microsoft Windows OS’s to run right on a Mac. I never had a Mac before, but if I have only a Mac with Windows-only programs, that Windows Mac Interface definitely is the best for me to use.

(Same great PC features – that is, assuming the computing prowess of a Mac.)
Furthermore, I also observed the Mac OS interface to run right on a PC several years ago (i.e. vice versa). Clearly perfect balance between a PC and a Mac.

Please get over it. Macs are better because of their easy to use OS. Yes, they can play games. And a lot of them to. Macs can be used for work, and education. Why do you think most schools use macs? Macs can also be used for play. Macs are more secure, (I will put this in retard terms for you windows users.) Think of two sandboxes. You are in one, while a mac use is in the other. Now imagine two people outside the sandbox pointing a gun at your head and you cant move. A windows user ether has no protection, a dumb white kid with a gun, or a man with an ak-47. Now, the mac user has a whole army, an electric fence, air filters and bombs set up around. Who is going to die? The less secure pc? Or the mac? The pc, because of no protection.
