The subleties of the German language:
Saying “Ich bin Berliner” would have
meant that he was from Berlin.

Saying “Ich bin ein Berliner”, especially in the context
of his speech, meant that he considered
himself a citizen of Berlin.

And rest assured that none of the Germans listening
understood that he said he was a jelly donut. Not only
because, as mentioned before, Berliners do call it
Pfannkuchen.

Anyway: perfect German for JFK, urban legend fail for

Anyways, you are again avoiding the truth. As I mentioned before, beer would have become the drink of choice even if zie Germans hadn’t of had their say. Beer was already the drink of choice in 20th century US and not wine. It was just they were mainly drinking pale ales, as you yourself previously pointed out (thanks).

Anyways I’m off to get absolutely steaming.

Living up to your name, I see. You’re completely ignoring the demographics of 19th-century America. Germans were the one of the largest and best-organized ethnic groups in the country, and remained so up until WWI. (Read up on the Turner Hall/Turnverein organization.) Without the Germans, large-scale beer production would not have occurred at the same time or in the same fashion as it did. It would have most probably have stayed localized. If the Italians or Irish had been dominant in large-scale alcohol production, we’d be drinking wine or whiskey. Either that or else Czech pilsners. Anyway, I’m gonna go have a homebrew. Go bore yourself.

True, zie Germans where very influential in how the beer industry progressed in the US and may well have led to lager becoming the beer of choice. However, if the influence of zie Germans hadn’t of occurred, the US would still have a beer industry (it may not have had lager as the beer of choice but there would still be beer available)!!

Not really.
The word “Berliner” either means a person from Berlin or a jelly doughnut.
(Thats kinda like “hamburger”), but when you talk about the first one, you normally don’t use an article.
But as a matter of fact, Berliner (= jelly doughnuts) are called “Pfannkuchen“ in Berlin – and ONLY in Berlin!! Anywhere else in Germany, „Pfannkuchen“means „pan cake“. So the people in Berlin listening to JFK cheered anyway…

I was not referring to beer in general, just beer in the US. Germans dominated the industrialization of beer manufacture in the US in the mid to late 1800s. The three biggest names in the industry by 1910 were Adolphus Busch, Frederick J. Pabst, and William Lemp, all from good German families. It’s through their efforts and successes (and an extensive German immigrant population) that the dominant beer style in the US is lager, rather than pale ale. Got yer history fail right here, bub.
