That’s what I was thinking too. I’m a landscaper by trade, so the first thing I looked at was the paths leading to the front doors. They needed to work around the concrete footing for the gate posts, so the gates had to be put in before the paths could be. As to why they didn’t put the fences up at the same time- probably because it would be a lot easier to bring in the materials for the paths if there’s no fence in the way.
Not a fail- in fact, a huge win. Whoever planned this out was thinking very efficiently. It might look odd right now, but they saved a lot of man-hours and frustration.

While that makes absolute sense and is probably correct, the concept of this site is based around how things look in the one image. Looking at the picture, with no explanation, it looks like gates with no fence, which is a fail.

there was a picture like this before but in the countryside on a footpath (or foot trail for americans) and people said it was photoshopped but i dissagree, there are hundreds (well maybe only dozens) of gates like like this with no fences throughout the english countryside on footpaths, usualy this is because the fence around it has corroded away or fallen down after time and nobody thought there was any need(read couldn’t be bothered) to buid a new fence.

I read about that town. That had a rash of burglars in wheelchairs breaking into homes via the front doors. The gates solved the problem by presenting an impenetrable barrier.

I think this is not a fence fail at all. We removed our pool fencing and all that remains now is a gate, much like this photo. Now whenever we enter via the gate, our dogs wait behind us until the gate is opened, and in they go. Likewise, they wait until the gate is opened again to come out. Therefore, I think all these homes have dogs as dumb as ours and owners as smart as us.

These gates are right near where I live in Vantaa, Finland. That’s a new neigbourhood so I suppose hedgerows are to be grown around those gates.
