fail for trying to be an ornithology genius and spilling further fail on the net. Like they above comment said–red-winged blackbird on a red-tailed hawk’s back.
& you are the first one to win the “Name that Species” fail game. Whoever thought the big bird was an eagle has done a taxonomy fail.
Yes, that is a red tail & a red wing, both very common hereabouts. I’m constantly seeing the little blackbirds buzzing the hawks but I’ve never seen the likes of this.
We have red tailed hawks and red winged blackbirds and barn swallows.
No surprise here, I’ve seen the red winged blackbirds mob the hawks.
Yesterday, I saw a barn swallow attacking a red winged blackbird.
The small blackbirds harass the hawks, The even smaller swallows harass the blackbirds. The little blackbird can make sharper turns than the hawk, The tiny swallow can make even sharper turns.
It seems to be an inverted circle of life thing, or something.
The barn swallow’s nest is above our main door. There are 3 baby swallows in it. They eat yellow jackets and wasps to keep us safe from stings. The adult barn swallow did successfully drive away the blackbird.
He’s pecking the hawk’s head….just matched speed well enough to grab on for a good hammering on the hawk’s noggin.
Little blackbirds harass hawks all the time, Hawk gets too close, blackbirds come flying out terrorizing it away from the young ones and the nests. I’ve seen two small grackels pick flight-feathers off a hawk before.
I think it’s funny how people are always saying to revoke the fail. A fail is always balanced by a win. The winning parties and the failing parties are always opposites and dependent, the winners win because of the failers and the failers fail because of the winners. Little Bird: Win. Big Bird: Fail
I disagree. I think some of the funniest fails involve only one party. My all-time favorite is a cat wearing a neck cone, with kibble scattered all around because he can’t get to his food dish. FAIL. It didn’t look like FOOD WIN or CONE WIN or HUNGER WIN.
A really good FAIL is just man/beast/machine/whatever versus the universe … and getting owned.
Not to mention, the title and caption are explicitly clear: *FLYING* FAIL, *RIDING* WIN. Makes perfect sense to me. Why are so many people exhibiting reading comprehension fails??
Unless you count wins by inanimate objects, I disagree. Someone falling down the stairs, say, is simply a fail. The only winners are the stairs and gravity, neither of which I consider to be eligible winners (although, gravity failing is always funny!).
Pawk! Stop it! Posts with links have to be approved before they show up! Posting it 18 times will only make it show up 18 times, but it still won’t show up until LATER! CALM DOWN!
The blackbirds only attack the larger birds when the birds of prey get too close to the blackbirds’ nests. Birds of prey eat blackbird chicks, but if they don’t eat other birds then they would have less food to feed their own chicks. Its a whole circle of life thing, Raptors (official term for most birds of prey) eat blackbird (and similar sized bird) chicks, blackbirds eat songbird chicks, larger songbirds eat seed/insect-eating birds’ chicks.
more accurately it is a redwing/fairy blackbird (need to see the underside to decide) on the back of a redtail hawk. blackbirds also attack crows/any slow gliding bird of prey.
Round here….Bluejays attack the hell out of hawks, buzzards, squirrels, cats, and anything that moves. The blackbirds don’t do much. The red tail hawks will carry your cat off.
To those who doubt the fail, it is a huge PREDATOR FAIL.
I don’t know much about blackbirds, but I know that hawks are known to sometimes prey on smaller birds. I’ve even heard of a few cases where they have taken parrots from their human companions.
Maybe Cody died some time after Bernard and Miss Bianca rescued him (McLeach somehow got vengeance?), he came back as a bird, and wanted to kick it with Marahute on her her own “turf.”
we have those birds around my house all the time!
basically the little one is probably trying to protect it’s eggs from the big one. they’re at it all the time.
It is fake! Can’t anyone see that!
First if the bird was on the eagles back like that it would blow off.
Second look at the shadow on the eagles back it is not real, if you look at the bird you can see a shadow on its with is not pointing the same way as the shadow on the eagles back.
Third how should they get such a good picture? It is hard enough to get a picture of an eagle from that angle, what is the odds to take a picture like that?
I could make it on Gimp myself, but I have not the imagination to do it.
It is fake, but it is a good pickture, and I think it is ok to upload fake too, just it is a fail!
Fail, my tailfeathers. This is a win! Sometimes we birds need a break from flying, so we just hitch a ride on a bigger bird. I find it very ingenious, if perhaps a bit lazy.
dude thats a redwinged blackbird, those things are totally badass. i think the other is a redtail hawk. redwinged blackbirds will attack anything- they’re the most awesome bird ever
More like MASSIVE WIN for the smaller dude xD
You mean like this?
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v153/osg-rpge/fail-flying-eagle.jpg
Yeah, just like that, LOL!
Exactly!
Almost EPIC WIN
for the smaller bird.
its like humans we domain bigger animal and mounted them for our purposes and now this bird has taken our example and followed evolution
you mount large animals? thats sick
omg haha
LOL nice
exactly. bird surfing OWNS.
Bird surfing…well no-ones said it yet…thought it was well known…but no-ones said the word…SURFIN BIRD!!
fag
Most definitely a WIN!
Guys, it’s a fail for the freakin’ bird of prey that’s letting its food ride it like a horse. Like a cat with a mouse tap dancing on its head.
Absolute FAIL.
Birds of prey kill and eat blackbirds? Whoa! Who knew? I wonder why I always see blackbirds harassing the fuck out of hawks?
*chuckle* SOMEONE got too close to the nest….
that’s not a blackbird, it’s a corvid, looks like a Jackdaw if not for the yellow/red stripe that may or may not be part of the bird
Red-Winged Blackbird
http://www.birds.cornell.edu/AllAboutBirds/BirdGuide/Red-winged_Blackbird_dtl.html
Whatever it is… how the fark did it get on that eagles’ back?!
they can fly, take a guess…
fail for trying to be an ornithology genius and spilling further fail on the net. Like they above comment said–red-winged blackbird on a red-tailed hawk’s back.
But win for the blackbird!
wat like
whipped? =)
more like “pwnd”
Imba mount!
Damn, I actually laughed at that comment! Does this make me an RL Fail?
This is definitely not a fail. REVOKE FAIL!
I agree… how again is this a fail? EPIC WIN!
Agreed! EPIC WIN!
First one to write “First”!
…And I love the pic…
first FAIL!
First one to post? FAIL
LMFAO this is awesome! Yay teeny bird yay!
Win not a loss!!
loss? FAIL! hahahaha
loss? FAIL! AHAHA DX
Wow, someone’s been playing too much Shadow of the Colossus!
Fail would be crashing into a window or something. The little one is 100% win!
Wouldn’t that be a win for the window? A fail implies a win for something else.
WINdow
boo. booooo.
picture fail.
Far roo many non-fails these days. This is clearly a WIN! Who wouldn’t want to soar upon the wings of an eagle?
Fail for the eagle. Eagles eat little birds like that.
Fail for you two. It’s a hawk.
Ahahahahahaaa I love this one! xD
that’s epic win for the lil guy!
It WOULD be a fail if the eagle was trying to shake the little guy off…
One barrel roll would take care of it.
I don’t think the eagle has a z key though
I think he’s missing his z-key…
He don’t have a N64!
grammar fayle
epic WIN.
FYI. That would be a red tail hawk and a red winged black bird.
RAPTOR FAIL!
Was the photographer in a tree or something?
We have red tailed hawks and red winged blackbirds and barn swallows.

looks like the little guy has him self an epic flying mount
Onwards, my valiant steed!
world of WIN
…you beat me to it
Hunting Fail!!
Laziness Win!!
There really should be a Win blog for pictures like this
Yeah… make a Winblog!
Come on… this is not fail! It is just the air hostess!!!
the smaller the cooler…smart ass
The hawk’s probably escorting him back to the nest to feed her babies. I saw a red tail hawk pick a robin right out of the air once, hawks never fail
Except when it comes to recently windexed windows.
Or, on one occasion, a low hanging-tree branch.
LOL that looks so noob
Lazy ass bird… Reckon thats how hes still alive in teh world… He just rides on the back of bigger birds
Comment fail?
seconded
Yeah, definitely a win. But this has to be photoshopped, right?
probably not, since smaller birds harrass hawks all the time. he’s probably not “riding” but just about to take a shot at the hawk’s head.
Seriously, cut it out please.
hello dark you rock!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
For the doubters: http://iwishicouldfly.com/iwishicouldfly/journal/html/053007.htm
This is a total WIN for the small bird, a FAIL for the hawk.
yup lil birdee probly swooped down legs out to take a pot shot at da raptor and da pic got snapped the very instant it hit !!!
dont make it any less cool tho great pic like the win bliog idea

Seconded.
thirded
Not to mention, the title and caption are explicitly clear: *FLYING* FAIL, *RIDING* WIN. Makes perfect sense to me. Why are so many people exhibiting reading comprehension fails??
*sigh* Gotta stop reading the comments.
I think ‘OWNED’ would have been a better caption.
PWNED!!!
PWNT!!
So now we’re posting any unusual photo and slapping ‘Fail’ on it? Pretty weak.
It’s pretty obvious the hawk is failing at hunting right now.
“A fail is always balanced by a win.”
Unless you count wins by inanimate objects, I disagree. Someone falling down the stairs, say, is simply a fail. The only winners are the stairs and gravity, neither of which I consider to be eligible winners (although, gravity failing is always funny!).
dumb whore.
Klaus fail.
That little bird has a bright future in management.

Pawk Fail.
LOL Pawk Big time failz :þ
…”and I’ll form the head!”
GO GO PHOENIX FLYING FORCE!
Riding win is trufax. It reminds me of the Millenium Falcon hanging out on the side of the Star Destroyer to hide from its radar.
Erm… it’s a fail, i belive that the smaller one is a blackbird, notorious for attacking eagles/hawks/falcons… poor BoP (bird of prey)
The blackbirds only attack the larger birds when the birds of prey get too close to the blackbirds’ nests. Birds of prey eat blackbird chicks, but if they don’t eat other birds then they would have less food to feed their own chicks. Its a whole circle of life thing, Raptors (official term for most birds of prey) eat blackbird (and similar sized bird) chicks, blackbirds eat songbird chicks, larger songbirds eat seed/insect-eating birds’ chicks.
i wish i could do that.
more accurately it is a redwing/fairy blackbird (need to see the underside to decide) on the back of a redtail hawk. blackbirds also attack crows/any slow gliding bird of prey.
That is a red winged blackbird and a red shouldered hawk.
Last
Last FAIL.
XD Odd, the first comment showed up immediately, and the rest of the time it went to “Page cannot be displayed”
I would actually say this is more of an Epic Win for the smaller bird dude. And an epic Win for teamwork
Round here….Bluejays attack the hell out of hawks, buzzards, squirrels, cats, and anything that moves. The blackbirds don’t do much. The red tail hawks will carry your cat off.
To those who doubt the fail, it is a huge PREDATOR FAIL.

How about this one – a rabbit kills a magpie!
Check this video shot by someone who happened to be there (and it’s not Monty Python, the magpie really dies so don’t watch if such things offend):
The site is in Finnish, but I’m sure you all know how to press play.
Apparently the rabbit took on all the three magpies on the video, and they kept fighting for over 15 minutes.
take a ride on eagle fail airline
Hitchhicker
“Home, James.”
reminds me of a story my grandfather told me
they had a contest who could fly highest, the small bird won the same way this one does
That’s a small bird win!
kinda like this…
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/6/6e/Space_Shuttle_Transit.jpg/800px-Space_Shuttle_Transit.jpg
Food search FAIL.
I’ve seen this happen a lot. Hawks eat eggs, and get attacked by the mothers. It’s way harder to attack a bird on your back than eat an unguarded egg.
Elf flight form rides epic Tauren swift flight form win :p. That’s really funny a bird could pull that off.
lol more like freeloader, lazy or irony EPIC WIN!
Maybe Cody died some time after Bernard and Miss Bianca rescued him (McLeach somehow got vengeance?), he came back as a bird, and wanted to kick it with Marahute on her her own “turf.”
i think this was photoshopped
OWNED!!
Hawks – Segways of the Bird-world!
Small bird = WIN!!!
Props to whoever managed to get that pic. Photographer win.
bird taxi WIN
that ain’t a fail thats genius at its best
Yep, it’s an epic win! He’s chilling his butt off!
‘A man can fly to any height he wishes so long as he stands abreast of the wings of an eagle’ – Horace.
thats a win for the red wing black bird
Can i have a ride???
How much do i have to pay to get in eagle airlines???
That’s definetly a BIG WIN!!!!!11oneoneeleven
WIN!
we have those birds around my house all the time!

Hitchhiking win!
dude thats a redwinged blackbird, those things are totally badass. i think the other is a redtail hawk. redwinged blackbirds will attack anything- they’re the most awesome bird ever
typical day at work for most folks, !!!!!

Symbiosis win
