» 85 Failures in Communication

  1. John Jude Farragut says:

*Laughs* And the boat just keeps on GOING! My favorite part was watching the crewman dash inside with the inferno over his head.

  2. WildWilly says:

Just a little off the top, please.

  3. Mephiles says:

Yay. We love you fail boat!

  4. flaxencurls says:

    That’s one tough bridge!

  5. Mp3thief says:

This was not the boats fault, the vertical lift bridge operator was drunk and started to lower the bridge before it made it through, you can see where he tries to raise it back up after the impact. this is a Bridge Fail!

    • cjk says:

Operator Fail it would be then.

    • Shana says:

Actually, he wasn’t drunk. He thought that the boat cleared the bridge, and started lowering it. As soon as he saw that he was mistaken, he raised the bridge again. I watched a TV show that explained how this happened.

      • melinda says:

ACTUALLY he was drunk, i work for the Welland Canal where this happened…but it’s mainly the Seaways fault cause the St. Lawrence Seaway called the guy in on his day off and he told them he had been drinking…so they sent a cab for him lmao

  6. @ Mp3thief,

Yeah, you can totally see the bridge lifting up at the last second. A similar thing to this happened in Tampa years ago except it brought half the bridge down and there was a fog and multiple cars drove over the edge. Good thing there were no cars on the bridge. And to see my CARTOONS click on my name link.

  7. john says:

I think this failboat thing is really harsh. Someone died trying to rescue this boat and I think it is an insult to his family to be mocking this boat.

  8. borkmadjai says:

yeah, it’s not fail boat, it’s birdge fail actually… ;)

  9. Alan DeWitt says:

Canada’s Transportation Safety Board’s report indicates that there were no injuries, and that “It is likely that the operator’s performance was impaired at the time of the occurrence”, although the impairment seems to have been due to expired prescription medications rather than alcohol.

  10. momly says:

I almost experienced something like this on a 25-foot fishing boat.

We were trying to get up the Mystic River and encountered a bridge that was pretty durn low. We decided to try pushing on the bridge to make the boat lower in the water and we were about to clear it when the sober person among us noted that the tide was rising and we would be trapped on the other side of the bridge for the next 11-12 hours.

We turned back downriver and as we floated off, I noticed a restaurant right on the water with every window filled with people watching us. I’m pretty sure someone lost a bet on this one.

  11. brendan says:

Nobody was injured? that is FAIL. destruction and fire without pain and death is worthless to me.

    • Alan DeWitt says:

Well, if it’s any consolation the ship was a write-off; the damage was so severe it wasn’t worth repairing. And I don’t recall the exact figure, but the bridge was out of service for several months at least.

    • Shana says:

You’re the kind of person who gets a hard-on watching the death toll in Iraq, aren’t you?

  12. silvanimal says:

You guys are too good! You crack me up! I have discovered this website very recently and I went trough the whole thing at once-It’s hilarious!! I love failboat, it seems to be the failblog mascot hahaha this is going right to my bookmarks!!

  13. Keelhaul says:

Failblog you’ve fulfilled my ultimate fantasy……Video Failboat!!!!!!!
Watch her move!!! Shake it baby don’t break……..ooohhhh nevermind….
Just need to replace the music with some good ol chikka chikka bow wow.

  14. Turquoize says:

Failboat, we salute you. May your continuing underachievements bring you much unsuccess.

  15. Gilly says:

    Haha! Awesome!

  16. Hugo says:

    LoL!!!!

  17. damnedgamer says:

    LOL Holland failed!!!
    muhahahahahahaha

  18. SochiTsuzuki says:

Yay! IMO like silvanimal wrote: Failboat should be FAILblog mascot… cos’ it’s soooo shweeet! <3

  19. Rockin! I HATE failboat!

  20. JustMe says:

Haha, that was awesome. I read the headline but didnt expect that.
FAILboat just keeps on going home.

  21. il dottore says:

crash was funny, fire wasn’t. even if nobody was injured or killed.

  22. Homer says:

Brendan: wow. Cold man, just cold.

On another note, that song is total FAIL. Why not Dio’s “All the fools sailed away”. And yes, I know that only 3 people got that reference, and at least one of them has a mullet.

  23. ADHD says:

Crew WIN: One crew member got stuck in the wheelhouse and survived by laying flat on the deck while the ship was sliced off 18″ above him.

  24. dan says:

i live near where this happened and it was a true fail they almost shut down that bridge after this as it was the bridge was up for several months so “epic fail”

  25. Merovign says:

I second (third, fourth…) the “FailBridge” comments – big boats just can’t stop when the bridge operator screws up. NOT failBOAT, but failBRIDGE.

Yeah, “failboat” sounds like “sailboat,” but that kind of thinking eventually ends up with complete nonsense.

It is an awesome (and terrible) thing to behold, though.

  26. Merovign says:

    Kill all auto-smilies.

  27. George the Llama says:

Lol I remember when this happened. Hooray for Niagara and our tres stupidity! D:

  28. Aperture says:

I remember when this happened. Yay for Niagara making the failblog!

  29. "A.J." says:

The bagpipe music while the boat was crashing into the bridge really did it for me. I fucking laughed till it hurt.

  30. ChodaBoy says:

Is that a fail boat or fail bridge. Hard to tell.

  31. Gil says:

In this case it was actually fail bridge! The boat was doing what it was supposed to and the bridge failed.

  32. I says:

I love how the guy goes into the boat to check if fail is true (fail was true he later found out)

  33. seth says:

    what about the passengers?

  34. Anonymous says:

u idiot, it should have been bridge FAIL. n00b

  35. pheebz says:

omg…i have the perfect failboat picture…goddamn i gotta post it here :D

  36. deThbaTe says:

This actually happened right near where I live. I used to go across that bridge at least once a week. My friends grandfather was one of the crewmen on the boat, too. Things like this are funny until it happens so close to you and involve people you know.

Of course, looking back on it now, it is funny, especially since the injuries were relatively minor.

  37. none says:

    BRIDGE WIN.

  38. KEvin says:

I saw this on shockwave. Epic fail : )

  39. Ola says:

It can’t be failboat with a name like WINdoc!!

  40. Tyler says:

I’ve seen that on tv before and a couple people died

  41. Mikey says:

I saw the burning aftermath of this. Live right down the road, so when we hear dit had happened a large group of my friends and I took off to go see it. Big pain in the butt though because the bridge was closed for a few weeks after and we had to go around to the tunnel to get to Niagara Falls. Waste of my life fail.

  42. Wesley says:

    EPIC FAIL

  43. Danish says:

More like the fail boat FAILS away =D

  44. Daniel says:

    destroyed in seconds
    did the bridge die?
