Sorry but crack doesn’t take away your grammer lessons does it? Just because your on the internet does not mean you need to make your previous teachers cry…sorry but *maturity fail*
what the hell is the point of typing “first”. everybody can see that you are first. reminds me of those idiots who use the word “gay” to refer to something that they don’t like. now, as for the picture, those things are really huge. didn’t realize how big they are.
In holland there are vrry much of those windmills, they are just normal landscape ‘objects’ for dutch ppl. I live almost next to 1 ;p in holland they build them in sea to cuz there is much wind
actually, i work on them for a living and most of them are not 130 meters high. only the offshore ones are that high. most of them are around 40 to 90 meters high
I worked on cell phone towers for a little while. You climb 1100 feet straight up and see if you don’t wanna take a little nap. That’s a very dangerous, very physically taxing job.
I’ve worked on the ground around those things. They only let well trained & very physically fit people go up there. But Graeme is correct. The photographer needs to have a harness & line of some sort & I don’t see even one trace there.
Hardhats are superfluous at that altitude, they get in the way, blow off in the wind & really aren’t very effective if you should fall. They’re just so that equipment won’t hit you directly on the head & what’s going to hit you at 300ft?
I worked in a steel grinding facility for a while. Hardhats were absolutely required to be on the floor. The only thing that could fall were the steel slabs, which were carried around by a ceiling crane. The light slabs weight 24 tons. There wasn’t a single thing in the facility that a hard hat could protect you from, but you could be fired for not wearing one. Stupid OSHA.
But wouldn’t a solar panel still collect UV rays through clouds? You can get sunburned on a cloudy day… well I suppose they might not use UV rays specifically… assumption on my part, but even so, who would bother to put away a solar panel every time it’s cloudy?
In Barbados we have been toying with the idea of establishing a wind farm but because we are so small the local shave protested because of the noise pollution. Instead some of us feel solar is the better option.
I used to install radio telephone antennae for oil rigs….I was on a radio tower @350ft and dropped a 1/2″ wrench it went straight through the hood of my service truck and into the engine compartment ripping a radiator hose…..miles from civilization…………..
Mechanical aptitude fail !!!!!!!!!! Get home at a decent hour fail !!!
Great pic.
Lame fail…actually fail fail I think. A stopped turbine doesn’t mean fail. And it looks to me that the guy is secured by a rope. They guy who took the photo, well we can only Speculate.
To Fake Dark: You do take the Douche price =) You are by currently the top douche here. And that’s a compliment. Keep up the good work!
man it’s good that it dosen’t move cuz else it would also be an upcomin fail. i really wonder how they can take being that high up. i can take heights yea but i cant take it when it’s so high.
In the picture, you can see at the bottom left a piece of denim from someone’s jacket or shirt (sleeve maybe?). This would be the guy standing on one of the blades to take the pic of the relaxing man. The height of the camera above the blade fits, and so does the angle. Besides, if it WAS a Helo shot they would have done it from a different angle to make the height above the ground much more apparent.
When the polar icecaps get done melting this will be this guys apartment out in the ocean.
I can’t imagine climbing up inside this thing to suddenly be looking out at this view when you get to the top. Also, I hope the brake is set well on the blades of this thing.
No, actually the installation of wind turbines creates a warm, dry condition at the base of the turbine. If you have turbines such as in a wind farm, it could adversely affect the climate in the proximity.
There’s no need for alternative energy at all. When we run out of crude oil, we’ll just throw US Americans in a press and extract oil from them. Finally fattening them with burgers makes a lot of sense – and oil!
Well, these things are not actually build to produce energy rather than work against the climate changes. As an ordinary fan they will cool – just on a bigger scale – the earth. Trust me – I’m an expert!
Can we please have the source for this photo? Thoughts on previous posters’ comments: 1) He should be wearing a helmet, not in case he falls off, but in case he smacks his head on some pointy machinery inside the nacelle, always best to avoid gashes and gouges. 2) You climb up a ladder to get to the top. 3) VERTIGO FAIL, nothing else 4) alternative energy nay-sayers would do well to check facts before posting
Whoever, said that it’s called a windmill unless you’re an engineer and then it’s a wind turbine – Fail! Wind mills are quite sepcific because they include a mill which clearly this does not, thus it is a wind turbine no matter if you’re an engineer or just a div.
As for the photographer being attached, apply some thinking people. If he were roped to the central section then if he fell off he would swing like a pendulum right into the tower which is going to hurt a bit, so he is probably secured directly below his feet which is why you can’t see it in the picture.
why does everyone think it could start moving at any second? it doesnt work that way. there is a big hydraulic pin that goes into the rotor to stop it from spinning and there are very big hydraulic brakes on the rotor.
How is it that only like two people noticed that the fail here is that he’s sleeping ON THE PART THAT SPINS? a good gust of wind would indeed finish him off nicely.
No it wouldnt. Well, if it blew _him_ off the mill, yes, then it would be instakealpewpew. But if you think that the mill can just go spinning when it wants to, youre wrong. Ever heard of… brakes? :O
And the fail is the motive, it should have been the dude down there taking pictures of the guy on the wing. But then again, he’s not on the wing, he’s in a crane. So yes, this is a fail fail.
I know, I’m a little late to the party and everyone has probably already said it… but… wtf is the fail here? Dude chillin for five on his job?
Pfft. I do that all the time.
That said, I work in a college, not 90 meters off the ground. heh heh.
You guys need to focus on the actual fail and how to explain it. All of you are just random and dont help us to understand what the actual fail is. Im confused.
I’ve worked on wind turbines… and that guy’s probably just waiting on the repair crew inside the hub/blades to finish something. I myself have chilled out in that exact position on a Vestas v-82.
Oh yes and correct, there is a giant freakin pin that you stick in the flywheel in addition to some massive 800psi brakes. Still kinda scary at >30m/s.
The picture looks like it was taken from a aircraft, such as a helicopter. Unless the photographer was 9 feet tall. Look at the angle of the shot… its looking down at him, well above the blade.
FIRST!
I have vertigo looking at this photo.
Replying to the ‘first’ guy gets me higher up on the list, right?
correct.
idk
comment after this if your ausum maaaaannn
sorry im on internet crack
Sorry but crack doesn’t take away your grammer lessons does it? Just because your on the internet does not mean you need to make your previous teachers cry…sorry but *maturity fail*
what the hell is the point of typing “first”. everybody can see that you are first. reminds me of those idiots who use the word “gay” to refer to something that they don’t like. now, as for the picture, those things are really huge. didn’t realize how big they are.
That’s what she said.
perfect..
geuins!… i cant speel
yo homeboys this looks like fun!
your mom said….
yeah dude its so gay wen ppl do that they must feel so proud
i don’t like you vincent. you’re gay.
Discrimination is so gay.
im wonderin about this dude on the propeller taking the pic????? hes got the balls
what are u gay?
FIRST!
I don’t like people who write FIRST when they’re first, I think it’s really gay
you fail…….
you fail…..
yeah me 2
omg i could so see some of my husband’s co-workers doing this. he works on the turbines
HAH! Now I’m second! You all suck.
Maintenance is fail? That’s a cool photo. I didn’t realize some of these wind wheels are as huge as this.
I hope this guy remembered to lock the turbine before he crawled out there…
he didnt and someone will restart the turbine soon.
restart the turbine? Knowledge of function fail.
At least all those windmills will keep them cool.
WINDMILLS DO NOT WORK THAT WAY!! GOOD NIGHT!!
good day. and that depends on what kind of windmill some are used to k
blow hot air on grapes to keep them from freezing
Then it’s not a windmill it’s a fan….
html FAIL
Futurama Win
They get a lot bigger too
that’s what she said.
alternative energies –> EPIC WIN!!!
Most are big enough to stand upstraight in the “engine room”.
WOW!!! Those things are HUGE!!!!
that’s what she said!
That was seriously the funniest thing I’ve seen all day.
Well placed “thats what she said” jokes are full of win.
yes and someone actually already said that
not as funny the second time..
In holland there are vrry much of those windmills, they are just normal landscape ‘objects’ for dutch ppl. I live almost next to 1 ;p in holland they build them in sea to cuz there is much wind
hurray for you
Lol, do you see lots of birds getting slaughtered by those things?
birds fly around them, they can’t stand the low frequency sounds these mills are emitting.
and the guy who took the photo was in an ever scarier position
That’s what she said!
EPIC FAIL
i wonder if she said that too
True, true.. What if suddenly wind comes? still that’s what it’s for right?:P
omg thats fucking horrifying!!!!!
Sorry, I have to. The comment is begging me to….
THAT’S WHAT SHE SAID!
didnt work there…
Totally worked there.
that’s what she said
Most of those wind wheels are around 130m high
It’s kind of a cool sight
actually, i work on them for a living and most of them are not 130 meters high. only the offshore ones are that high. most of them are around 40 to 90 meters high
Two of four of them here are 105(hub)/150 meters high.
The other two are 68.5(hub)/101 meters high.
You fail at posting a good FAIL here
Wait, what? Where’s the fail here? “Really big wind turbines sometimes need repairs, and you end up with amazing photos of guys doing the work?”
CMon, lets see -you- get up on one o those things so casually.
I think it’s because he’s asleep. It looks like he’s asleep anyway. Hence the “Alternative Energy Fail”.
I worked on cell phone towers for a little while. You climb 1100 feet straight up and see if you don’t wanna take a little nap. That’s a very dangerous, very physically taxing job.
I’d rather be the guy taking the picture.
that’s what she said…
“dont look down, dont look down, dont lo….”
righthandgenius.wordpress.com
So Chilled…
More like Health and safety FAIL. No hard hats and the guy taking the pic doesn’t appear to be attached to anything. Can get fired for that.
I’m sorry, I don’t think a hard hat would help very much from that height, sir.
Sure it would…
It’ll make a nice bucket for the squished gray-matter….
Or killed presumably
Win for thinking about the photo-taker.
Superfluous? FAIL
Why, because he actually has a vocabulary? You fail for thinking that fail call was funny. Idiot.
Who did the guy making the photo think he was?
i would jump of with a para shoot
He needs a helmet, Graeme? if you fall from that height no helmet on earth could help you.
Your comment made my day. I can just imagine the hardhats protecting you from 24-ton slabs of steel.
Hard hats also protect you from bumping your head; I have seen workers on these before with hard hats on, looks like there could be one next to him.
nice shot!
so extraordinary place to relax!!
… you mean he fails at failing?
Sweet.
(If you try to fail, and succeed… which have you done?)
Uh, f***ed up?
Epic win. xD
That guy gets great WiFi up there.
New cartoons here: http://spinachflame.wordpress.com/
Holy crap! I don’t think I could be either person frankly.
This isn’t a fail at all.
These wind turbines (well, some of them) only work at certain wind speeds, so if there is no wind, or too much wind, you can’t generate power.
The fail here is probably no wind. I’m suprised there isn’t a picture of a solar panel on a rainy day. (someone post one)
But wouldn’t a solar panel still collect UV rays through clouds? You can get sunburned on a cloudy day… well I suppose they might not use UV rays specifically… assumption on my part, but even so, who would bother to put away a solar panel every time it’s cloudy?
I am new here. Just wanted to say hello. So hello! Zeynep xx
In Barbados we have been toying with the idea of establishing a wind farm but because we are so small the local shave protested because of the noise pollution. Instead some of us feel solar is the better option.
Nice pic!
There is no fail here, only win.
Why would you have a truck on an oil rig? FAIL.
FAIL for thinking that oil rigs aren’t ever built on land.
should say camera man safety fail!
I’m afraid…
;P
There’s no fail except that alternative energy itself is a fail, and the guy taking the picture is putting out more energy than the windmills are
And you clearly have no idea what you’re talking about. If alternative energy is such a failure, why is it being so actively pursued?
Lobbyists?
(j/k)
Helluva picture. I work on windturbines like this but I place the concrete for them. My view is slightly different…
Ek
How is this a fail also ignore anything else I say. (I AM DARK)
man it’s good that it dosen’t move cuz else it would also be an upcomin fail. i really wonder how they can take being that high up. i can take heights yea but i cant take it when it’s so high.
You need a helmet Tara.
Redwhiteandboom your name contradicts the sentiments in your statement, which constiututes fail.
vertigo fail
http://stuffgirlslike.wordpress.com
Do they have to climb stairs to get up there? That’s quite the workout.
Anyone know where this pic was taken?
no stairs. just a straight up ladder. some of them have service lifts tho.
I’m guessing this is a magazine or publicity shot of the founder of a wind energy company.
He’s pretty clearly well-rigged and harnessed. The photo was probably taken from a helo with a very long-focus lens.
In the picture, you can see at the bottom left a piece of denim from someone’s jacket or shirt (sleeve maybe?). This would be the guy standing on one of the blades to take the pic of the relaxing man. The height of the camera above the blade fits, and so does the angle. @40: If it was taken from a helo, what’s that thing in the lower-left corner? I’ve had nightmares similar to this, except there’s no harness.
“They’re just so that equipment won’t hit you directly on the head & what’s going to hit you at 300ft?”
A Bird
To #42 Vaux
Looks like a blue jeans to me.
One of the biggest problems with wind turbines is that it will actually change the weather on the ground underneath of it
that is such a myth. you know, coal burning plants change the weather by making ACID RAIN
WTF?
How? by making it rain windmills? that comment is retarded.
No, actually the installation of wind turbines creates a warm, dry condition at the base of the turbine. If you have turbines such as in a wind farm, it could adversely affect the climate in the proximity.
Go wind energy!
Of course there’s an energy fail here! He’s lying flat on his back isn’t he?!
LOL harnesses wont help u if u go crotch first into one of the propellors or whatever they call it… Ouch if u ask me….
Oh wow, so cool, and definitely a failure as a fail picture.
There’s no need for alternative energy at all. When we run out of crude oil, we’ll just throw US Americans in a press and extract oil from them. Finally fattening them with burgers makes a lot of sense – and oil!
You fail at life.. step away from the keyboard and go play with your imaginary friends.
you fail at being remotely funny in any sense
You all fail.
Lol The American’s do have a use after all.
I think that was a dutch guy, they have freaking much mills in holland
nice pic..
Feckineejit, your name says it all, so I guess that’s a fail win?
Well, these things are not actually build to produce energy rather than work against the climate changes. As an ordinary fan they will cool – just on a bigger scale – the earth. Trust me – I’m an expert!
Phil, why did you stop being a pert?
Total fail when the blades spin around and everyone plummets to their death,
Idiots….it says alternative energy fail, as in the wind turbine is broken therefore it failed. Fucking morons
@ #19
“(If you try to fail, and succeed… which have you done?)”
That is a paradox best left alone.
Hey Dark, if it is that much of a problem, just get a different avitar or name.
RE: previous post
I was reffering to the problem of all those Fake Darks, there are simply too many of them
Erm, I can’t change the avatar, it’s probably to do with my e-mail or something. And I don’t want a new name, which’ll probably be taken as well.
WINRAR !!!
look at it long and hard and see if it isn’t moving to you!
That’s what she said!!!!!!!!
Anyone know where I can get a hi-res copy of this picture, without the “fail” caption?
a clear WIN! The guy is doing his job, the turbine is working… nothing wrong here, just a cool pic
up the stairs he said , out the door he said …well i’m sitting right here till he brings me my coffee!
P.S. 5) looks like he’s wearing quite a lot of harness to me, as well as some phat gloves (or is that a helmet?)
I didn’t know they were that big =O
Whoever, said that it’s called a windmill unless you’re an engineer and then it’s a wind turbine – Fail! Wind mills are quite sepcific because they include a mill which clearly this does not, thus it is a wind turbine no matter if you’re an engineer or just a div.

Fails all round with this one I’m afraid.
If there’s a fail it would be if the turbine started going while he’s still on the blades.
Whoa, how big is that thing??
A: It is pretty big!
just wait until it starts spinning XD
FAKE=Photoshope
If you’re gonna call “Photoshop”, please learn how to spell it first.
That is an incredible picture!! Is it for real???? Looks like something right outta Star Wars!
I think 98% of you all just failed for not considering that it might… just be a camera with a timer?
quite the risk of it falling off…
and it would be really easy to just walk up to the end of the blade and put the camera down, then walk back in time for the timer.
great thinking!
different picture, but this shows where the photographer must’ve been..
http://www.aufwind-luftbilder.de/bcat_popup.php?id=1578
This one is much smaller…
But he’s right. I was wondering if this is part of a crane on the left.
They had to pull the blades up there somehow at first place…
lol if that starts moving….hes dead
why does everyone think it could start moving at any second? it doesnt work that way. there is a big hydraulic pin that goes into the rotor to stop it from spinning and there are very big hydraulic brakes on the rotor.
How is it that only like two people noticed that the fail here is that he’s sleeping ON THE PART THAT SPINS? a good gust of wind would indeed finish him off nicely.

And the fail is the motive, it should have been the dude down there taking pictures of the guy on the wing. But then again, he’s not on the wing, he’s in a crane. So yes, this is a fail fail.
hopefully that thing has an elevator o.o
omg imagine if they turn on the turbine
id be freaking scared to fall off that xD
What’s that panel next to him? looks like a solar panel.
I hope the parking brake is on.
Im confused.
base jumping actually sounds pretty fun up on the giant winmills
base jumping actually sounds pretty fun up on the giant windmills
sooooooooooooooooooooooooo why is this a fail again???
this is a totally awesome possum picture bros.
He’s protesting.
haha, and the dude taking the pic? where is he standing? xD
i don’t get it!
I’ve worked on wind turbines… and that guy’s probably just waiting on the repair crew inside the hub/blades to finish something. I myself have chilled out in that exact position on a Vestas v-82.
Fail @ no hard hat, though.
Oh yes and correct, there is a giant freakin pin that you stick in the flywheel in addition to some massive 800psi brakes. Still kinda scary at >30m/s.
me dont get it…..
LOL but those things spin (trust me ive driven by 10 million of them) maybe its stalled….. lol still funny
it’s not actually a fail
cant beat that.
The picture looks like it was taken from a aircraft, such as a helicopter. Unless the photographer was 9 feet tall. Look at the angle of the shot… its looking down at him, well above the blade.
