They hold a lot of drug smuggling ships there; many of them rot out and sink before they can be destroyed. Very strange sight, if you care to go see.
If it’s not ok to make fun of boats sunk by hurricanes, fair enough. But then why is it ok to make fun of oil tankers sinking or people with javelins through their feet or their heads on fire, or being bitten in the face by something? It’s all a sliding scale of tastelessness and you’re drawing a fairly arbitrary line there, Zeros and Anonymous.

Hey, it’s part of human nature to laugh at other people’s problems.
Most people laugh when you hear a joke when somebody gets hurt/screwed over (eg “a man runs into a bar. He wakes up in hospital a day later”). Some people have more of this fault than others, such as peopel whio laugh when other peopel have serious problems, such as a destroyed house. Others have even more of this fault, commonly known as torturers.
It’s quite similar to sado-masochism.
PS: The germans actually have a word for this: Schadenfreude, enjoyment taken from the misfortune of someone else.
PPS: Wikipedia says we have a word for this too: Epicaricacy.

fair comment AussieBird #9, i have no argument it is a grey line that i am drawing. But just one thing, most failboats picture have no direct connection to people (big oil tanker… abandoned shipwrecks), as opposed to this one showing people livelihood destroyed.

Yeah, but #53… lots of people died in Burma during this last disaster. LOTS. More than 9/11… so is it okay to laugh at one and not the other? I’m no religious zealot and I am a constant “laugher” — hence this page being bookmarked, but there’s a difference between stupid fails and making fun of someone’s lifestyle that (a) can’t be helped, or (b) has just gotten a whole hell of a lot worse after a cyclone. If you take the picture out of context (which is the only way you can find it humorous, really) then it looks like Failboat sank itself because the locals were jealous they didn’t have as cool of a boat. That’s funny.
