O.M.G. Absolutely correct. And how. That place is . . . really . . . bad . . . for the eyes. Look it up folks. This window is the LEAST of the architectural problems!
Regarding gravity, the curtains are hanging at the same angle as the window. Unless they’re attached at top and bottom, which is entirely possible, they are not hanging properly.
I looked at a gallery of pics of the Stata Center and none of them seem to include dingy white bricks like these. They’re all shiny and progressively built structures.
I’d keep looking, but it’s just not that important an item on the to-do list.
http://www.eecs.mit.edu/stata-link.html <—whether you had an office or not – which gives me pause because if you did, you wouldn’t have time to peruse the comments section of the failblog – this link has multiple pictures of said center, and none of them are in any way related to this one. But then again, you may not have an office there anymore precisely BECAUSE you spent too much time on failblog.
You know…if EvilCarbon above put half as much energy into writing for his blog as he puts into spamming it on this site, it might have been updated more than once in the last three weeks…
That’s not really Frank Gehry’s style. I don’t think a single one of his buildings involves bricks at all, it’s all stainless steel with that man.
Could be fake, but it’s strange how on the right side of the window all the bricks are cut into shape and on the left side the wall is warped, except all the bricks are the right size. It’d be difficult to fake that, you’d have to redraw the bricks.
Could be some imaginative repairs after an earthquake.
No, this is not the Stata Center. There are no balconies like that at the Stata Center. While it does have brick, the brick is red, and all the windows are straight.
@ #7 – dbs – Frank Gehry is (was?) being sued by MIT for the strata center because it’s poorly suited for the climate by leaking and providing dangerous shelves for ice to form and then drop.
Evil Carbon – will you stfu? plugging yourself as an idiot in the comments doesn’t get you more links, it’d be nice if you actually thought more than 2 seconds before you posted
My first thought was that it was fake, but then I thought it might be the result of an earthquake — not imaginative repairs, as suggested by Sofar, but maybe no repairs.
There was plenty of disagreement about whether or not it was (a) real, or (b) the Stata Canter. Now, if I hadn’t read the thread, how could I have referenced Sofar’s earlier comment? Welcome to my dick, partyhead.
How you can you people spend this much time arguing over what building this is? It’s a fake. It is so obviously photoshopped, my 6 yr old cousin can tell. It’s a really half-arsed photoshop fake. And not even very interesting or funny.
It looks photochopped. I can tell as the curtains on the windows don’t respond right to gravity. IF it WAS real, then wouldn’t the curtains hang straight down like normal. I am sure of it.
photoshop fail – as several people have said, if it was real, the curtains would be straight, but they are at the same angle as the rest of the window.
This is commie house from one of former USSR states. And believe me as I live in one – this might be no fake If you do a search you’ll find enormous wonders of architecture .. like stairs leading to nowhere, balconies without any doors or windows etc.
Back then many buildings were built only by professional observers, but no builders. So if someone was lazy people just build everything as is.
Hmm, Strata Center is pretty bizarre, but I think I agree now that the brick buildings there dont look quite like this. Is this maybe a photography trick, a bit of fisheye lens or something?
Can’t be real.
That is most definitely real
It is either very stupid or deliberate.
i like how the gravity on the curtains its changed
Very astute.
hahah LOL
It’s obviously fake.
that real when it on fail blog….lol
make sense you no
architect fail.
But builder win.
( really, who thinks placing a window diagonally in bricks is easy?
Maybe extra-fail for trying.
Its a huge win for the guy that lives there, unique styling, go him i say!

^ visit. comment. love.
“well Earl, I’d say she’s ’bout a half-bubble off level”
That picture is faked, cause if you look on the right window on the top, it seams the gravity isn’t right!
spelling fail!
What does gravity have to do with bricks cemented to each other?
This is not a FAIL.
This is the MIT Stata center. It was designed by Frank Gehry. Google ‘mit stata center’ you’ll see plenty of details about it.
The crooked windows and slanting walls are deliberate designs.
Well, Frank Gehry=Fail.
it looks like a shaky hand and slow shutter speed on the camera mixed with a little ps work to me…
Definitely NOT the Stata Center. You must be thinking of another one. http://www.eecs.mit.edu/stata-link.html <–that is a whole other thing.

At least there is a building on each side to hold it up.
This is not the Stata Center. I had an office in the Stata Center (http://patricklam.ca/gallery2/v/040312-stata/). It’s just fail.
You can say many things about the Stata Center, but the windows were all level.

Yeah. He meant to do that . Really.
“I’m gonna make an apartment where the windows look stupid.” FAIL.
This is what happens when you get the Illiegal aliens at $2.00 an hour to help you put your windows in.
And you’ve been drinking all day.

@ #3 – LOL
I haven’t been on the MIT campus for a few years and immediately realized that it was the Stata Center.
FAILblog FAIL.
[...] Architect FAIL Thanks to Moneca for: [image] [...]
wow you mean you remembered the building with the crooked windows for more than a couple years?
you must have been valedictorian at MIT
Wait a second, how is it not an architect fail just because it was built like that on purpose? It’s an awfully ugly building. The architect failed.
No, this is not the Stata Center. There are no balconies like that at the Stata Center. While it does have brick, the brick is red, and all the windows are straight.

in other words, FAIL
Schmuck, he’s probably got a JOB, unlike you ya lazy prick.
Schmuch, I don’t think you do either. He seems smarter than you, mainly because only a moron would use an insult like that.
This could have been done in Romania, no ? Looks like the old school architecture you can see in every town…

made in russia, but still fake
Guys, this is a real picture of a real building somewhere in USSR. Trust me.
hahah, so it’s not even the MIT building? #20 brandi is really a sharp one
photoshop job = FAIL
How you can you people spend this much time arguing over what building this is? It’s a fake. It is so obviously photoshopped, my 6 yr old cousin can tell. It’s a really half-arsed photoshop fake. And not even very interesting or funny.
You say this on every photo, don’t you? What a loser.
The bricks under the window are cut off. If it was photoshopped the bricks would be slanted as well.
Epic Fail for those who think this is fake. E P I C FAIL
This is not the Stata Center. Only 2 people on here got it right. This is a building in Russia.
BECAUSE IN SOVIET RUSSIA, WINDOW TILTS *YOU*
It looks photochopped. I can tell as the curtains on the windows don’t respond right to gravity. IF it WAS real, then wouldn’t the curtains hang straight down like normal. I am sure of it.
kinda creepy.
construction fail
photoshop fail – as several people have said, if it was real, the curtains would be straight, but they are at the same angle as the rest of the window.

LOL
Isn’t That The Apartment From Seinfeld?
most definately real. its in boston. was a wicked expensive building built on M.I.T. campus
If you think this is fail, wait till you see other buildings designed by Frank Gehry.
Hmm, Strata Center is pretty bizarre, but I think I agree now that the brick buildings there dont look quite like this. Is this maybe a photography trick, a bit of fisheye lens or something?
