  1. svenska says:

Thats a realy big wave!!! And I am the first!!!

  2. That can’t be real. And who took the picture?

  3. Milly VonCupcake says:

and he’s only waist deep in the water….i wonder how deep he was before the water receded to bring forward the wave?

  4. Ouch!
    Does he have a surfboard?
    Or a deathwish?
    Or both?

    http://www.caroftheday.org

  5. RedWhiteAndBoom says:

Does this look like snow to anyone else? I don’t know if this qualifies as fail…he’s just about to die, that’s all.

  6. David says:

That’s how waves break at alot of beaches, so the wave can crest at like 12 feet, and the water can be only waist deep, with alot of rocks and reef. They may be sitting on a board, though, so the water could be deeper. You can duck under most waves and be spit out the other side, but it looks like the person hesitated too much for that.

    Major pending fail.

  7. You have to admire that courage.

    Wave fail.

    Lifegaurd practice win….

    http://www.righthandgenius.wordpress.com

  8. Can he not turn quick enough to ride this thing? Looks like he still might have a few seconds. But I’m from fly-over America and know nothing about waves…

    Cartoons here: http://spinachflame.wordpress.com/

  9. Mike says:

He’ll be fine. What’s the worst that could happen? Think of him as the American people and the wave as the current economic situation and you’ll see that everything will be just fine…just fine indeed.

    http://aphilosopher.wordpress.com

    • paul says:

the worst thing that could happen? He could drown. His back bone could breake, nearly every bone in his body could break. He could become unconcious und drown. Those waves arent funny. I got hit by such a wave once and its one of the most horrible feelings in the world when you are stuck in water, you got no idea where you are and there is no oxigen for about 20-30 seconds

      • AL says:

You can’t hold your breath for 20-30 seconds? Maybe you shouldn’t go into water outside your bath-tub.

        • Alesia says:

Holding your breath for 20-30 seconds isn’t a big deal… Except when you just got hit by a giant wave. Then you get the breath knocked out of you. And it hurts. A lot.

  10. josh says:

naw – it’s amazing how easy it is to duck under even a big wave like that. sure, he’ll be crushed and churned a bit, but if it’s a sandy bottom, he’ll be back and ready for action in seconds. rare NO FAIL. (grew up in a beach town)

    • anonymous says:

Growing up in Hawaii for 17 years i can say this guy is done. First off if he does dive the wave its gonna break and create whats called a ‘falls’ which is gonna suck him and hold him under for a good 30 seconds, and if he just sits there the lip of the wave is gonna smash him right into the bottom.

    • titaniumspork19 says:

*didn’t grow up in a beach town but notices things* It all depends on what he does. If he doesn’t move, FAIL. But most of the time, if you run forward and dive for the base of wave and make yourself streamlined, the water will move right past you. You have to go with the flow. If you get caught in the wave, well, that really sucks, because you’ll be tumbled so much you won’t know which way is up. But fighting it will only hurt you more.

    • namer says:

do the have coral in Hawaii

  11. AussieBird says:

he’s not waist deep in the water, he’s on a surfboard, you can see it in front of him. Major FAIL!

  12. Ubik says:

What Josh say it’s true. If you know how it’s easy to avoid a wave like that just submerging a little. (sorry if my english is bad)

  13. Anonymous says:

I used to wonder what’s so dangerous about waves but if you try to imagine how much water that is and how it weighs you’ll realize it’s about as heavy as getting a couple of rocks dropped on you. If you dive in though the energy will be mostly absorbed by the water above you.

  14. emokid says:

ahahahahaha, u dont have a real life an i laugh about u so hard… u fail @ all u trying to do… stupid idiots… ahahahahaha

  15. mikeytherhino says:

Is it bad that I’m rooting for the Wave here? Surfer Suicide WIN! LOL

    mikeytherhino.wordpress.com

  16. Marcio Lima says:

    UhUhauhauhauhau
    going to fail…

  17. jskoda says:

Is it possible to send a picture that wasn’t edited first in our society? I don’t think so….

  18. Mickey says:

    Tidal fail.

    Oh shi… Wordplay fail.

  19. pnogal32 says:

wow that must’ve hurt big time. Yeah, u can submerge in the water, but that’s a really big wave, and that guy didn’t have the time… u can get hurt by waves like that.

  20. testnur says:

Even if he dove, he could still get churned like tomatoes and sardines in a blender for FISH TACOS!!!!!

  21. damnedgamer says:

    Wave win!
but i guess the man is copied in the picture

  22. mclassen says:

Where’s David Hasselhoff when you need him?

Check out my blog -What were they thinking?

  23. gobob789 says:

    He could just dive.

  24. pjbottoms says:

That water looks more like snow…

  25. Anonymous says:

    Wimaea Shorebreak…..

  26. axelander says:

    That Mike is a Commie.

All you have to do is leave the country, dude. It’s as simple as that, just leave.

  27. Cassidy says:

    He’s going for it.

  28. Dark says:

@17: Hey, you stole my name again?
    Seriously, stop it.

But strangely, that was pretty much what I was going to say…

  29. Fatman says:

LOL man ppl these days… trying 2 find faults in fails…. jesus christ pplz… Why cant we all just go, look @ a fail and laugh? instead of constantly trying 2 find the faults in this site and its pictures?

    Viewer fail

  30. Dark says:

Fatman, I agree. Especially when said people shout “shopped” at a real picture…

  31. Alex says:

Is it just me or do I see a man with no shirt ON SNOW? The wave looks like its photoshopped right in as the background. He looks like hes on some waist tall snow. Anybody else see it like me? I noticed one person said snow as well.

    • Lane.Dizzo says:

When waves are big, they create a lot of “whitewash” (the white bubbles crashing waves produce). It’s not snow. Those waves are just huge. And he is going to get pummeled.

Now, to people who are saying “photoshopped”: Why don’t you google some gnarly wave photos. It’s pretty much right on.

Ever been to Hawaii when the waves are big? That’s how it looks to watch someone surfing out there.

Huge, scary, foamy. Crazy surfers that look like dots compared to the massive size of the breaking waves get pwnd just like this guy probably did.

  32. spee says:

this one sucks so bad…does anyone have to approve these before they;re posted or should i go ahead and start submitting pictures my cat SHE IS SO CUTENESS HAHA CAT FAIL BAHAHA

  33. Zap Rawdouer says:

He’ll be fine. It looks like he’s about to execute a duck dive:

    http://www.surfing-waves.com/surfing_lesson_three.htm

  34. dectia says:

    Pending avoidance of fail…

    imaG @27 FTW

  35. huskerdont says:

75% chance that with a good duck dive he’ll just pop out the other side. He’s timing it just right–you want to dive just at the base of the wave. Still, that’s a pretty big wave, and if it breaks on him he’s gonna go tumbling for a while, so hope he took a very deep breath.

  36. Jamie says:

Not fake at all! Waimea Shorebreak (google it) one of the most awesome waves in the word! hundreds of people surf it each year when it goes off!

  37. Neo says:

he’s gonna fail for sure lolz

  38. MiniSkirtus says:

That is a snow avalanche. I think it’s fail he’s not wearing a shirt in the snow.

  39. blank says:

i think its a woman. it says woman in the caption. why does everyone refer to the person as “he”?

  40. killskeptics says:

You people have got to check the perspective of this wave and the position of the surfer. This person is on the edge of the break and isn’t going to catch the brunt of the wave at all. It’s a dangerous place to be, but probably trying to catch the edge of one of these for a ride. Also that isn’t snow, that is break. Where the waves go smashing down into the beach, it’s a lot of air bubbles being generated. Massive waves, wouldn’t be surprised if it wasn’t taken at a competition. Watch more ESPN and less of the food channel.

  41. sniels says:

Hm. Can’t happen. When he/she is standing in waist-deep water, there’d never be enough water to make such big waves. If that could happen, i’m afraid we wouldn’t have any shores to surf from anymore. bit like that movie waterworld :D

    • Hawk says:

      ^smartypants superior logic attempt FAIL.

You retard.. the larger a wave, the more the water recedes form the shoreline.. totally possible and very probable.

  42. Fatman says:

LOL Fail ppl who say this is photoed… Get glasses… its obviously water…. water can be really foamy u tools…

    As i said before

    Viewer Fail!!!!!!!

  43. george bartlett says:

the guys on a board, just gonna dive under this wave ,and paddle out for the next,or the next ,he will catch one,it will be awesome at that size, lifes a beach(unless you live in grimsby) dig it ,Dark, pass the beans.

  44. george bartlett says:

why dont you have a back to top at bottom,i’m last ,lol

  45. aint says:

ITS A SHE U GUYS FAIIIIIIL!!!!

  46. Chilibo says:

You are all wrong it’s a naked man about to be hit with an avalanche. You can clearly see the snow on the ground…
    *takes off running, lol*

  47. Its a chick, its not snow, its heavy foam from the break zone you bunch of freaking squids,
she is to the RIGHT of the wave, it will never even hit her, she’s not blind, retards.

  48. noertz says:

    Woowww :D goodd

  49. Anonymous says:

that alexander is a moron!!! (#30)

  50. Captain Flymo says:

If that person is standing then it’s a fake. Trust me, I have a degree in oceanography – there is no way waves that size break that way in water that shallow unless it is a proper tsunami wave. It’s just a surfer sitting on a board who won’t be in the break.

    Verdict: No fail.

    • mattie says:

WOW flymo, degree in oceanography and you say this is impossible??!? YOU FAIL! go back to night school buddy, its called a steep beach… it’s Waimea shorebreak, look it up idiots. Look up Teahupoo, Tahiti- same concept except it’s reef that causes the wave there… get a clue dude.

  51. Arrian says:

Just look at the swell in the front of the pic, they can’t be standing upright if there is a swell taller than they are.

  52. Jacob says:

    wave of fail

  53. melanie,16 says:

    totally snow.
copy and pasted top half of someone’s body.
    fake fail.
    but it was real..
    more death than fail.
    definitely.

  54. Cully says:

Been there, not pleasent. So much more funny when you see it than live it

  55. kuskus says:

It’s Waimea Shorebreak, Hawaii. The guy is a bodyboarder. One would assume he is proficient enough at duckdiving to get under it. Waves that size suck you towards them pretty quick.

It is also incredibly shallow. I suggest people google both ‘Waimea Shorey’ and ‘Shorebreak’ before claiming its fake.

  56. bre says:

    lol.
    owned.
    XD

  57. Ollie says:

Come on, seriously people, does anyone know anything about waves? This guy would *not* be staring down the barrel of that wave (with a photographer looking at him, no less) without knowing what he was doing. Firstly, if he is on a surfboard, he is perfectly positioned for a duckdive, he hasn’t left it too late at all. Secondly, if he’s standing on the ground, he can easily dive through the wave at either the base or, if he’s moving forward, through the middle and, finally and most logically, he can just dive straight under it.

For the record, I live in Australia, have done for many years and I was a member of an SLSC (Surf Life Saving Club) for several years, also, you can dive under pretty much any wave.

Finally, to you people who think it’s snow: don’t have kids.

  58. Anonymous says:

    Is it.. an avalanche?

  59. PutDeodorantOn says:

    Well, ouch.

  60. Epic Fail Guy says:

Oh. I also see that this was tagged a woman. That’s a guy. A guy….

  61. jdfht says:

i think it should be about to die tho :(

  62. Rob says:

For his sake, I hope that’s photoshopped

  63. Cameron says:

I would assume he is surfing…which is why the water looks shallow…
…The thing he should probably worry about is the board smacking him in the face and ripping half of his face off :)

  64. FordPrefect says:

    My God that is scary

  65. FordPrefect says:

BTW, people who think that is snow, if it was it wouldn’t be blue-ish underneath like that unless he was standing on a glacier…..

  66. I’ve had a wave maybe 3/4 of that size hit me while i was just standing there……………it’s scary as shit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! god damn i’d like die if i was that person

  67. WingedDemon says:

I think we can all agree that if the surfer doesn’t do something, that wave is going to inflict major pain and probable death. I wouldn’t be surprised if a wave like that could knock you out…

  68. ubertastic says:

    MAN vs. WAVE

  69. Robert Ruesterholtz says:

Its Waimea shore break and you can dive right under it and pop out the back. I know because I lived there and used to do it all the time. If you are not an experienced ocean swimmer stay on the beach.

  70. Ken says:

    heehee good luck…..

  71. Ken says:

i wonder how much that hurt????

  72. hahah.. he’s like “oooooohhhh sh*t”

  73. kevin says:

just imagine being that person at this moment. what would you do? i want people to leave replys to this comment telling me what you would do :)

  74. PsychoDad says:

I think the photo kinda misrepresents scale and perspective. I’m sure little beach loser there is in for a rough time, but I suspect it is not >quite< as bad as it looks.

PS — let's all welcome as our new King Dooshbagge.
