Ahahahaha how does some one mistake a possum with a cat? Honestly… I can understand confusing it with a rat or something… prolly a practical joke, or something.
Whaha, I didn’t get it at first (combination of blindness and not knowing what taxonomy is (go ahead, take a screenshot and label it fail )) but thanks to Christopher now I know
I know I always say this… but it’s clearly photoshopped, if you look at the bottom of the square photo, there’s a white border which doesn’t blend with the greying paper where it says “MALE”
I don’t think it’s photoshopped, probably just some guy screwing around. the black square could just be something on the back, like someone used the paper again.
It’s called photocopy my friend, probably the guy just did a Frankenstein in a plian white sheet and copied the thing like that, that’s why it looks darky in some zones.
Rosie, I hate to admit ti but I think you are kind of right. I saw another version of this very similar, but the it said it was found on franklin ave. (not far from sunset btw). http://www.flickr.com/photos/bezitted/1731893232/sizes/l/

’shopped all right, but it looks like it was only edited to improve legibility of the text using the Sharpen filter. The header text and image do not look fake to me.
This cracks me up.. the photo on the right of the flyer “profile shot of said CAT” its like pissed off and getting ready to spread rabbies. I wonder if they got any calls on this…
And such great relief – I’ve been looking for that darned cat. I kicked him out after he ate the chihuahua. Thank God someone found him. Now if we can just get him potty trained.
Seriously people, this blog was designed to make you laugh, not question authenticity. Funny is funny. Leave it at that. My wife and I stumbled across this blog and found it hilarious. Please keep up the good work!
But if it’s fake, it’s not funny (to me anyway). What’s funny is the idea that someone actually thought that was a cat. If nobody really made that mistake, then… so what?
Talk about about LMFAO — I’m still laughing & I read all the comments. Opossums do eat cat food and can wander into people’s houses. But who cares if the poster was joking or if this was photoshopped – this is the funniest thing I’ve seen in a LONG time.
It isn’t photoshopped, why would you bother to photoshop a black and white xerox when it would be easier to make it, staple it to a tree, and take a photograph.
Just the sheer concept of someone snuggling an opossum into their house to try to find the “kitty’s” owner…. oh my god…. it’s like… giving out caramel-dipped hedge-apples for halloween….
What’s especially funny to me is the “taxonomy fail” I just finished my term in school, my friend was taking the Mammology class and I was studying with her to pick up info for next term…. this is JUST the kind of thing that teacher needs to see. *emails him*
I’m a wildlife rehabilitator and actually have approx. 30 orphaned opossums right now (they’re really very sweet as babies) – this just made my decade LMAO *frames poster and hangs on wall*
Seriously, even if you detect something in a picture that you can’t explain right away, the first thing to do should not be pointing your finger at the screen and shouting “PHOTOSHOP LOL”. Instead, just think about it for a moment. If you did, you should have come up with a few thoughts that make the Photoshop theory seem quite unlikely:
1. A picture on the back of the poster could affect the front like this without any photoshopping.
2. If only the text within the visible edges was added in Photoshop, the editor still would have had to find a poster that shows an opossum underneath the line “Cat found!” In that case, what in the blue hell did the text say on the original poster that made him edit it?
3. If the whole thing was photoshopped, we’re talking about someone who is pretty experienced. You can tell that because the pictures and text follow the curvature of the poster real smoothly. It would be pretty unlikely for someone with that experience to make an obvious mistake on an easy task like blurring edges.
4. As mentioned by someone else before – if he did make that mistake anyway, why on Earth would he have gone through all the trouble of editing instead of just printing out two pictures of an opossum, writing down the text and taking a friggin’ picture of it pinned on some tree trunk?
Another thing you might want to try to wrap your pea-brain around is the fact that nobody would spend time in photoshop to create something like this when they could do the same fucking thing with a sheet of paper and a goddamn magic marker.
this is hilarious…really.
i laughed really hard the first, second, fourth, and every time after.
the third time i didn’t understand what was so funny about it and why i looked for it for so long. so i took a break and came back to it. still funny, regardless of whether or not it’s fake.
oh god…
Reminds of one time my dad saw a dark shadow, assumed it was our cat and started calling it over to the house. It came closer…and closer…and then he slammed the door shut when he realized it was a skunk.
is that a possum? is that what american possums look like? cos im australian and our possums are cute. that thing looks like a cross between a rat and ferret.
American possum fail
OMG! XD that’s hilarious. That actually happened somewhere very close to where I live recently. There was a sign that said Found Chihuahua and it was just a rat. Haha how embarassing.
for anyone who hasnt seen it yet, heres a vid by the guy who made the poster. Its all the messages people left on his answering machine. funny as hell. i wish i had thought of it.
Actually. All of you possum opossum bickerers, Possum is the common name. Virginia Opossum can be a common name too but most refer to it as the “Formal Name”. Scientific name is Didelphis virginiana
if this wasnt a joke its a wonder that person didnt get rabies. Opossums (and its opossum, i dont care what people call it possum is wrong) are nocturnal and if this person found it in the day thats a sign of rabies. That is if they found it wondering around in the day.
Awesome opossum.
blog dick : this is hilarious i am going to post them in my neighborhood,
i know originality fail. wtfe.
Whoa. This happened in my neighborhood.
Louis CK reference WIN!!!
i like how its not a cat if you look close enough….AND IM A SERGEANT!!!!!
it’s possum. not opossum. you just offended the possums. are you happy now?
No it’s opossum,a Virginia Opossum to be exact, (wow I am such a nerd anywho) a possum is a completely different animal.
is oppossum
but possum sounds much better-like ..
who put that poster up, a four year old?
An alien!
you mean immigrant?
No a martian coksuker!
it’s a photoshop job. Google “Possum” and you’ll probably find both those pictures
lol found one of ‘em
no, it’s not. whoever put up those signs must have done so as a joke
ha yea
Okay, now THAT’S funny.
Ahahahaha how does some one mistake a possum with a cat? Honestly… I can understand confusing it with a rat or something… prolly a practical joke, or something.
FAKENESS FAIL
that opossum photo is of the internet
Very much correct… If not funny it’s also very.. very sad
Why in the world is this filed under “ferret”?
Shows further taxonomy fail by the poster.
Dumb ass.
Idiots. Pure idiots.
Whaha, I didn’t get it at first (combination of blindness and not knowing what taxonomy is (go ahead, take a screenshot and label it fail
)) but thanks to Christopher now I know
Failblog tag fail.
Awwwwwwwwww
Whoever wrote it is so cute! “I think he might be scared”
It made me smile happily more than shouting “FAIL” at the seven winds.
I know I always say this… but it’s clearly photoshopped, if you look at the bottom of the square photo, there’s a white border which doesn’t blend with the greying paper where it says “MALE”
Why would they just change the word MALE though?
…wait.. nvm. I GET it now!! Yes… *cough* Carry on, good people.
Personally, i think that makes a great joke! I think I’ll try that… <_< ;P
Ijust don’t get it

Too bad there’s no video of them making the “male” determination with the unfriendly “cat.”

I died of laughter
I figured it was an April Fools joke. a very good one though. Made me laugh.
I first saw this long before April fools day, but it was the original with an Australian possum. Some one has Americanized that one.
Yep, the phone number on the bottom of the Aussie one was a 1902 number for a $3.00 a minute “Talking clock” service.

(#38) “Nice Marmot.”……ROFL!!!!!!The Dude abides!
I love random idiocy.
I think it’s one of those giant rat-things. We don’t have them in England…
Virginia Opossum, native to the U.S and Canada. Ugly as sin.
the left photo (on the poster) is lifted from wikipedia’s “opossum” entry
Just discovered FailBlog, courtesy of Neal Boortz. Photoshopped though it may well be, it’s still one damned funny picture to post at work. K.I.S.S.
I peed my pants laughing lol !!!!! HAHAHAHAH
Nice little joke to play on the neighbors.

I am totally with you….it looks like they may have hung it over another sign, and that would be where the color change comes in! It just cracks me up!

Cat… Fluffy tail, cute, most widely owned pet.
Virginia opossum… Naked tail, ugly, not exactly pet material.
Seriously, how can you confuse the two?
I’m a wildlife rehabilitator and actually have approx. 30 orphaned opossums right now (they’re really very sweet as babies) – this just made my decade LMAO *frames poster and hangs on wall*
this is not photoshoped!
this is the exact poster my friends dad put up
amazing!
Thats messed up lol, my dad marked out the number.
He’s a highpo and they were driving around and saw
This lol. have a copy of it next to me haha.
You’re failing at pointing out a fail here, it’s a fucking JOKE
I laughed so hard snot came out my nose. And I’m crying.
This is WIN!
Funny, but PHOTOSHOP FAIL!
You can see a geometrical edges slighty darker than the surrounding paper than makes it obviously fail.
D:>
Funny tho.

having the nuts to wrangle an opossum win
it’s POSSUM. NOT opossum.
Even Homer Simpson could tell that’s not a cat!
fake because when you search possum on google images that image comes up
but funny points to the person :d
This is on the best of Creg’s list.
for anyone who hasnt seen it yet, heres a vid by the guy who made the poster. Its all the messages people left on his answering machine. funny as hell. i wish i had thought of it.
