I wasn’t going to reply to this, since it is so old, but then I saw that this was actually less than a month ago.
If you have a stand-alone quote, yes, the period is inside the quotation marks. If you are inserting a quote into a sentence, the period is after. EX:
“It was ridiculous.”
The cop said that “it was ridiculous”.

The cop said that “it was ridiculous.”
If you want a quotation in there, say:
The cop said, “It was ridiculous.”
