Anyone who has ever been in a mosh-pit can probably imagine the excitement of this ancient tradition.
Yes it is cruel I suppose, but unlike Fox-Hunting (which was banned in Britain because that really is 5hr ritual of animal cruelty by super-rich nobility who are completely detatched from reality) the running of the bulls does have cultural history with the population at large.
While I’m not advocating it, I can think of WORSE abuses of MORE animals for SMALLER crowds……
Running of the bulls (aka encierros) is not very bad for the bulls. Problem for them is that in a few hours they will be painfully killed in other of the so called “ancient traditions”

without the running, a large part of the culture of that area would be lost. say for instance… no more Christmas because people were “too generous”
