I’m actually going to agree with the photoshop conspiracy theorists, much as I hate to. PDXr is right about the shadow of Fishel’s, and the probable lack of sun to begin with, Anon2 is wrong about the physics, Stephan is right about the guy being about to acqure mastery of the Force, but careful inspection of the reflection strongly suggests to me that the reflection is not a mirror image. Also, what IS up with the drivetrain being on the non-drive side of the bike? I’ve worked as a bike mechanic (actually about 6 blocks from this scene) and never seen anything but a chainring mounted on the left of a bike (tandem). It wouldn’t be impossible, but you’d have to make two derailleurs from scratch, and seriously modify a hub to make this happen, but there is no reason to do that except for the sheer hell of it, and this guy looks like he’s too busy doing complicated dental surgeries to waste his time milling derailleur parts. I’m guessing this picture was cobbled together by a Mercury staffer. Better yet, the Willy Week. Nobody that works for that paper rides a bike.

I know exactly where this is. It’s in Portland, OR. on MLK Blvd. The bicyclist is heading South, the building behind it is blocking the sun, which is setting behind it, which explains why there’s no shadow (and that fact that in the PacNW we hardly ever see ‘the yellow orb that burns us’). Why would someone photoshop it into a shot of a furniture store when they could just use the actual pic in whatever it’s original setting was to begin with?

Believe it or not, a similar accident happened to me on June 20th 1998. I was wearing no helmet, and almost lost my right eye becauses my glasses broke.
I still can laugh when I tell about this, because I survived so I can laugh to this picture too be it photoshopped or not, it remembers me of how lucky I am

Most of the crashes I’ve seen or been in the rider has clipped out of their pedals.

However, the physics of that image is completely wrong, as the wheel would be much closer to the cyclist, the bike would be rotated much farther, and there is no cause for the front wheel to come off in the first place. The creator fails at making a fail.

Lindstrom: can you seriously not tell that is a photoshoped picture? the reflection isn’t distorted, just smaller. the front gears are on the wrong side of the bike making the chain cross from the left to the right side. also, cyclists wear cleats to stay connected to the pedals. there’s simply no way his feet would be in the air with the bike down on the ground. feel free to laugh at the picture; just know that it isn’t real.

is that all some people do, expose photo shop pictures, some of us like to lauph at these pictures. (this probly will not make you think its real but look in the window, his reflection has the right amount of distorshion correct to the slight bend of most shop windows, you can also see part of the reflection mostly coverd by the support)
