one of my favorite photos! Thats actually how they hunt around for mice though– sneak around smelling, then leap out of NOWHERE and pounce right on the hibernating bastards. Kinda more epic than fail. Still cool though

The rodents the fox is hunting are not hibernating–they stay awake in the winter under the snow’s surface. The fox can hear them moving in the tunnels they dig.
This is no fail, just a skill full hunter catching rodents hiding under the snow.

Not a fail, actually probably a successful hunt! Anyone who knows anything about wildlife knows that foxes are quite good at locating and capturing small prey under a blanket of snow.
Isn’t this from Ice Age? Remember in the beginning, there’s a little animal chasing after an acorn. Isn’t this him? By the way, in case you haven’t seen it, Ice Age is a 3D computer generated movie. It’s a cute movie, I’d recommend it.
No, scrat was some made up rat/squirrel thing they made up for it, This is a red Fox on a rather successful hunt(esp since he could hear the prey under all that snow).

No, not Photoshopped. I’ve seen this photo before in Outdoor Photographer magazine, and this is how foxes hunt. They listen for rustiling sounds beneath the snow, then leap straight up and dive into the soft snow. In the case, he was unsuccessful (per the photographer). And D, “skill full?!” FAIL!
