As I told a friend who had sent me that a couple weeks ago: those are french plugs; therefore they have a differential circuit breaker (mandatory).

So I wouldn’t take a dip with them, but I wouldn’t put them at the top of the office death pool just yet.

    • Anonymous says:

Hate to complain, but the sockets in Sweden, and most of europe has looked that way for many many years…

      • Anonymous says:

What’s that have to do with anything?

        • Hat says:

He’s saying that the plugs, hence the picture location, mustn’t necessarily be in France, as these types of Europlugs/Schuko sockets are used throughout all of Europe – apart from the usual backwaters (UK and Ireland).

          • Rui says:

They are just like that here in Portugal…

          • David says:

Ahem – “usual backwaters”? UK plugs are safer than those used elsewhere in the EU as they have an Earth pin as well as neutral and live ones.

Then again, anyone putting an electric extension cable on a soon-to-sink platform above water deserves everything they get coming to them…

            • Dandy says:

Uk back water how dare thee, I never tried to eltrocute myself in a pool I have you know

                      • Gopher says:

I won’t take the time to mention every that is wrong with your comment, such as how would you know which streets are safe in the U.S. and which ones are not? Our health care system, people come here from all over the world, particulary in Minnesota, Mayo Clinics and Hospital, Northwest Hospital, University of Minnesota. Canada, with its supposedly free system has many of its residents coming to the States for health care. Why? Because they don’t want to wait, in some cases, six months for an MRI. Liviability? How many people want to immigrate to your country as opposed to the U.S.? Second Amendment? We have rights in this country, guaranteed rights. Every person I know that owns a weapon is law abiding. Sure the U.S. has problems but we don’t hide them and God knows we’ve elected some idiots. Sure some morons thought Obama was Muslim when he acutally isn’t. Some people actually thought Bush conspired with Bin Laden to attack the Twin Towers as well.

I’m proud to be from the U.S. and of the role our nation has played, specifically in saving the world from Facism in the middle part of the last century. I’m also proud of my European/Scandinavian heritage. But, Europe has its own issues. What happens in Europe in the next 25 to 50 years might be a precursor to events here. Europe is losing its identity. Its all good and fine to what to be inclusive and help people, but not to the point of including those who want to destroy you and to the point where Paris is burning . . . again. So, I’ll just sit here in the States, holding onto my Winchester 12 gauge, eating beef jerkey, watching the Simpsons and getting the best medical care money can buy. You can stay where ever you are, doing nothing and let history roll over you. I guess I did want to reply to everything you said.

By the way, our leaders to your leaders . . . Adolf Hitler, Josef Stalin, Benito Mussolini to name a few. I believe, not sure, but I believe these fellows were all EUROPEAN. Thanks guys for providing us with some of the biggest mass murders in World History.

No, it was about not paying taxes without Representation.
And most wanted to be ruled by the King at the beginning but that mentality shifted as the war continued.

(WWI: Killed millions but the US was in a time of Isolationism therefore not entering the war till right at the end. and still suffered huge numbers of casualties…)
We didn’t want to get involved with foreign wars that were not our business.

We finally joined and then tipped the balance heavily towards the Entente powers, thus winning the war.

We lost 117,000 people in one year. That is comparable to the yearly losses by the British and other European powers. That is HALF the anual deaths that the British suffered.

Epic exaggeration and historical misrepresentation fail.

(WWII: killed millions… and ended with a bomb that caused people to suffer… that is just awesome…)
Yes and if we had not joined the war you would not be alive and neither would I because neither of us are perfect examples of Aryanhood that the Nazis wanted.

(and saying that you think a third time is good. well that just makes you
a an ignorant uninformed backwaters typical american that the world hates. how about you become informed and know what your talking about. then maybe you can make a comment that will mean something to everyone and not play into the typical american stereotype of being an Idiot.

He said that Europe was trashed two times in a row… maybe ifd it happens again they will finally win without America helping. He never said it was a good thing.

                        • Lewis says:

America didn’t invent electricity. Nobody invented electricity. The Ancient Egyptians knew very faintly about electricity akmost 5000 years ago. Research was carried out on electricity by English physicist William Gilbert in 1600, drawing a link between magnetism and electricity. A primitive electrostatic generator was built in 1663 by German Otto von Guericke. In 1752, Benjamin Franklin carried out research into electricity, and discovered that lightning was in fact electicity. Italian Luigi Galvani published his work detailing how it was electrical impulses that fire offf nerve impulses in our bodies. Finally in Italy the first alternating zinc znd copper battery was produced in 1800, Leading on to circuits being built by the Danish Hans Christen Orsted and French Andre Marie Ampere in 1819-1820, while British Michael Faraday invented the electric motor in 1821.
Hope that has enlightened you on how America did, in fact, not invent electricity.

If you wanted to convince everyone that America really is #1, you really shouldn’t have brought up the World Wars. In both of those, you sat on your island, miles away from the dangerous bits, until you were sure you’d picked the winning side and sent us a token effort. If we hadn’t have won the Battle of Britain and started to tip the scales towards victory, I bet America would have jumped into a pair of lederhosen and helped Hitler take over the world. And the American Revolution wasn’t really a win for you, it was British People in Britain Vs British people in America (and the French).

Class dismissed. Stay behind for further learning, USA #1, you’re obviously a moron.

I wince at the profound dumbassedness as expressed by some — and I say tentatively — “fellow Muricuns” in this thread. I think it speaks more about an EPIC FAIL in our education system and basic lack of global curiosity. But more than that, it addresses a PROFOUND FAIL in our press and what we have come to expect and demand from the corporate-owned and watered down ‘news’ we are bombarded with in the USA. Ignorance is nearly unavoidable, try living here for a few years. God damn, it’s the world’s most delicious cool-aid. Sugary and devoid of nutrition, but mm mm good.

            • Veikko says:

              Europlugs/shukos are earthed.

The connectors are at the sides of the plug so the plug fits in both ways, unlike the three pronged UK plug. And it’s compatible with the older nonearthed outlets.

          • kev says:

Backwater, hah! The UK domestic electrical system is renowned for being the safest in the world by a LONG WAY. UK plugs are larger because they contain a removable fuse, allowing every socket in the home to supply up to 13A of current at 240V quite safely. The sockets contain shutters that close up when no plug is connected, the pins of the plugs are themselves insulated for the first centimetre and there is no danger of connecting a plug ‘the wrong way up’ (which, irrelevent of the appliance, is dangerous). No other system has all these safety devices together.

            Continental European Fail (as usual).

            • baley says:

The UK plugs are way too bulky. it’s a complete mess when you
have 10′s of appliances which takes a ridiculously large floor space.

Lol, I didn’t know you could connect a plug ‘the wrong way up’!

As for the shutter, I don’t exactly see the point. If you put a
metallic wire inside you will be electrocuted in any case.
You only need to push harder.

Common Sense Fail (I know it’s not commonl)

              • kev says:

The shutters covering the live and neutral won’t open unless the (longer) earth pin is inserted first. And many 2-pin plugs can easily be inserted the wrong way up, ie neutral pin inserted into the live. I hope you didn’t think I meant putting the plug in with the pins facing outward instead of inward (!)

                • Polara says:

It doesn’t make a difference what country this picture is in, though, does it? I mean, the wiring in any country would have this situation end in electrocution, wouldn’t it?

                • Bee says:

Actually, with AC circuits it doesnt matter which way up a 2pin is.
AC – Alerternating Current – Constantly changes from + to – at a high speed, UK plugs use a fuse for extra saftey. And most UK plugs use an earth pin because the appliance conducts somewhere on the outside of the case, or contains a transformer.

There are so many isolation points or fuses in a uk circuit compared to a europe circuit that really does make our system the safest.

Apart from our voltage being over double europes. The upside of that though is if we want to use an english appliance over europe, we can fit a 2pin plug to our UK appliance and it WILL run on 110v, Europe cant do that, cuz 240v will blow a 110v appliance

                  • DeepLurker says:

Ok… just to make sure, an Earth pin is the same a a Ground pin,
yes? It is the one to help stop you from really hurting yourself
                    on accidental contact???

I think it is the same, but wanna make sure!

                    • Evervescent says:

I know it’s a tad late, but yes. It’s the little round pin below the two rectangular plugs. On the off chance that you read this comment, rest assured!

How do you see a difference between German plugs and French ones? As far as I know it’s EXACTLY the same system. And yes, it seems to be German: They are BBQing, they use flip-flops, and forced their children out of the kiddie pool. Unfortunately, I cannot identify any label of the beer bottles, so I’m not sure at all but: Look at them! Red-skinned and proud of it. That’s my country!

  16. This is retardation at it’s finest. A true result of our feeding children drugs era.

  17. Jimbo says:

This is retardation at it’s finest. A true result of our feeding children drugs era.

  18. Ed says:

“Theses are not french plugs for sure, but maybe german”

Heh, they are not german, they are swedish. Plugs are exactly the same in all the european union. you fail.

    • EmJee says:

Nope, they’re completely different in the UK and Ireland.

      YOU FAIL! :p

    • Hat says:

They’re neither French, nor German, but Swedish – because they are the same all over the EU (apart from UK&Ireland)? How the hell does that make sense?

Besides, we all know there’s no water in its liquid state in Sweden. It’s technically impossible you snowman. (/sarcasm)

  19. DsaWiesel says:

This pic is from germany. The beer is Krombacher and Veltins.

  20. Markus says:

“Plugs are exactly the same in all the european union. you fail.”

No, they’re not. You certainly need to carry around an adapter traveling europe. French and German plugs at least look almost the same. mabe this will help:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_with_mains_power_plugs%2C_voltages_and_frequencies

  21. MuGo says:

    @Markus:

So tell me why I should use an adapter in France. Although there are different sockets there’s no problem to plug a German electronical device into a French plug. I can’t see why to use an adapter in France. It’s not England as far as I know…

  22. jeroen says:

YOU ALL FAIL ppl all plugs are the same in europe and americans sorry to say but if you haven’t been there you shouldn’t be giving any comments

    • EmJee says:

Not only are you wrong, you didn’t even bother to read the earlier comments that proved you’re wrong.

      DOUBLE FAIL!! :p

  23. Aphexan says:

Jeroen, no the plugs are not the same in europe and america.

  24. Anonymous says:

probably from germany. bottles seem to be from Warsteiner (beer mixed w coke, lemon, …)

  25. Lucas says:

I actually know the guy standing. He is definitely German. He sent me the pick sometime last year, but I can’t imagine the other side was plugged in. Even though he might be crazy enough to generally get killed doing something stupid I wouldn’t say he is that stupid…

  26. grond says:

Nobody would get killed even if the connector got drowned. Water has quite a high resistivity (unless the two drunkards pissed in it too much…) and electricity always takes the shortest path. In this case it would simply run from one line of the connector to the other which is metal and only about an inch spaced apart.

And no, plugs are not the same in all of the European union.

  27. da sind wa dabei says:

    Northwood Lan 7 summer 2007
    beer: Krombacher Pils
    Veltins V+ lemon (Beer+Sprite)
    Veltins V+ cola (Beer+Cola)
Veltins V+ energy (beer+Energy drink, blue bottles)

    http://www.northwood-lan.de

  28. Monkey says:

Bah, doesn’t anyone know about electricity?
The worst that is going to happen here is the power will short circuit. Electricity doesn’t “electrify” the pool, It seeks ground. As it seems they are in a plastic pool it is probably well insulated anyway. If there were enough power to jump the plastic barrier, the power certainly won’t travel half way across the pool just to course through a person when there’s plenty of water where the plug is….
    Summary: Education fail

    • Malfeasant says:

You are technically correct, however, compare to skydiving- if something doesn’t go quite right, you could DIE! At least with skydiving you get a thrill that lasts several minutes, sitting in a pool with power cords isn’t exactly thrilling, so not worth the risk.

  29. anonymous says:

yall are all morons who said they will die. if u know anything about gronding and wood with electricity, you would realize that they are in little to no danger. thats why there is wood on the plug.

    • -_- says:

didn’t you notice the plug IN THE MIDDLE OF THE POOL?!? you’re the moron

    • me says:

the wood is there to make it boyant if that plug was to fall in ant way it is not in the circut and isnt afective any way because if was to fall in the wood would float and the plug would be under it

  30. jo says:

    you all fail

    staged full stop

  31. Paxton says:

These guys are from Germany. I recognize the beer-bottles: V+ Lemon, Cola and Energy and a bottle Krombacher.

  32. Nathan says:

OMG WHAT MORONS!! LOL! Darwin award to them.

  33. Kaylara says:

The plugs in Germany and France are the same. I live in the Netherlands and have been to those countries, and they’re exactly the same as the ones in my house. The ones in the Czech Republic are also the same. They are, however, much different from US plugs.

That being said, I’m also pretty sure that Water + Electricity = Death here too. Circuit breakers, etc aside, this is totally not safe, and no one with half a working braincell would do it.

    Epic Fail.

  34. Anonymous says:

All it takes is what? Less than 1 amp to stop the ol’ ticker?

Not likely to happen there, but still… Was it necessary to have the table in the MIDDLE of the pool? One trip on the wire, and the booze goes overboard. FAIL on THAT account at least.

    • Pat says:

Actually less than 100 milliamps can stop your heart and wet skin makes your body 100 times less resistive. Though the GFCI will most likely trip and stop any current from flowing immediately after contacting the water, these guys are clearly idiots.

  35. Anon says:

Now this is just hardcore manliness. Takes balls to put your balls on the line like that.

  36. J Mintuck says:

I just think they are BEGGING The Grim Reaper to come!

  37. Marius says:

    holy mother of god

  38. FAKEd? says:

think about that you not see the end of these plugs :P it must not plugged in so it could easy be a FAKE

  39. Wren says:

    Cases of beer: 60 euros.
    Electric grill: 80 euros.
    Inflatable pool: 100 euros.
Pair of flipflops that are the only thing floating between you and death: 10 euros.

    Electrocuting your buddies: priceless.

There are some things money can’t buy. ; )

(Swanky newfangled European circuitry or not, I think I would rather stay outta THAT pool). : )

  40. madcow says:

  46. NinjaDude753 says:

    … thats rad

  47. Jenny says:

Okay, I’m gonna go out on a limb and assume that this was staged and those cords aren’t actually plugged into a power source. If not, well, I guess the gene pool needed some chlorine anyway…

  48. tuba says:

fuse could save them or not.

  49. phoenix_paradox says:

OMG! HOLY S… that must be a joke… come on theres no one stupid enough to do that… LOL its awesome!!

  50. Pawii says:

  53. NdtA says:

  59. awesome man guy says:

    i hope they died

  60. insanityiswoah says:

ignorant humans fail…. the world population as a whole regardless of nationality or any other possible type of ignorant prejudice has problems: stupid people, prejudice people, obese people, uninformed or misinformed people, so rather than assume everyone in one place is messed up in some way based off of something you heard or someone you met, just assume that that person is messed up, not their entire population

  61. slayah says:

epic pool suicide party faiL XD

  62. John says:

The mates are so stupid the first thing to kill them will be the sandals.

  63. Johnny says:

Yeah because kill almost all native americans is so much better than hitler?

  64. Mr.Fixit says:

Ummm Ok thing is that America is definatly not a perfect place and neither are the people but no where, and I mean no where in the world is perfect we all have plenty of flaws so how about we work together to fix them instead of pointing each others flaws out? I’m Canadian and hell theres plenty of stupid people here just today I walked out of the fast and furios 4 and some guy in his crappy truck was trying to do a burnout. Perfect example of fail, now how about a little less fighting and a little more fail pic surfing hmm? Alright.

  65. Adam says:

    Wow….redneck swimming

  66. JustinCase says:

    Shocking!

  67. rogerM says:

i’ve been reading your comments, and i’m laughing my ass off .. i’m an electrician, and i’d have no problem doing this .. as some half-decent people have commented before me, .. circuit would break before you could even get a tingling sensation.

you have watched TOO MANY AMERICAN MOVIES where everything sparks and blows up!

  68. Amused says:

People argue about the most trivial things. Can’t you just enjoy the photo for what it is instead of worrying about the type of plugs or the nationality of the people involved? Geez.

  69. bd says:

    *cue jaws music*

  70. Here is an upcoming Darwin Awards Winner!

  71. nada says:

Funny how morons can turn anything into a “bash America” contest. I’d say someone needs to get a life. Most people seem to only feel better about their miserable lives, and their stinking hole of a country when they can say crap to put down America. Having been to most of your little nations, I don’t understand why you stay there, but I DO understand why millions of people try to come HERE every year.

Good luck with your next little war. You’ll need it, as always.

  72. buttnut says:

not a real situation…. all these old failblog photos are stupid

  73. buttnut says:

they are all kind of like that fat guy riding his bike eating beans being “propelled” by farting… yeah right retards

  78. Clown Baby says:

its ok guys! the power strip is floating on sandals!

  79. CheeseGuard says:

  80. Chuck Norris says:

  81. someone who does not want to put his real name says:
