They should put this sign in the office where they design elevators, not in the elevators. This is an engineering fail, not an user fail.
They’re called Paternosters and are absolutely scarey… you get in and out while they’re moving… they don’t stop unless someone hits the emergency stop… had them in our Uni… would dare each other to ride them round the top…

that one shows there’s emergency stop trips going up (the wires just short of the top of the openings) but there’s nothing to automatically stop the ones going down, which is how the woman got killed by her bin…
Ok so stupid question but what happens if you don’t get off when it reaches the very top or bottom?

No, this goes for all elevators without an inner door. These signs have been put up on all inner-door-less elevators I’ve seen recently. They are not paternosters. The elevator shaft is “smooth” on the inside of the door, but if you are unlycky (or just very good at getting in trouble), you _can_ snag cargo between the door and the wall of the elevator shaft. Should be pretty difficult though.
Paternosters would give me nightmares btw, i didn’t think there were such things for people.

agree with BitterMelon. Currently I live in an appartment with an elevator without innerdoor (but with outer door) and it has a similar warning sign in it. Not a dangerous elevator though, unless you are really stupid/ignorant/forceful. But I suppose it would be an easier way to get yourself killed if you just leave some of your scarf / jacket dangling between the door and get it stuck.

Actually, there was an accident in sweden many many years ago, where a person was killed this way, and this caused these warning signs to be created.
That’s a horrible way to go.

I can’t believe it. They created warning signs instead of making safe elevators. Do they think elevators will be safer after you threatened users by death?

Paternosters and similar elevators move rather slowly. Someone would have to waste a significant time arm-flapping (or simply being inert) to be killed or injured in this manner.

The edge of the bin caught on the ledge outside the elevator. The elevator dropped, the edge of the bin was caught, and it was lifted up and slammed into her head. O_o
