I think this was at FINA Montreal. Remember seeing it on TV. All she got was a bloody nose, swam out of the water on her own too.
I remember hearing about an accident like this but not the one shawn refers to. In the one I heard the chick got messed up bad.
When I saw this I immediately thought of Greg Lougainis. Apparently it’s a thin line that separates FAIL from gold medal.
Not only did Greg Louganis do it twice, but one was on a 10m platform. Guess the only people who never FAIL are those who never risk!

I actually saw something like this happen to one of my teammates when I was on a diving team. She hit her mouth on the edge of the diving board. Lost a bunch of teeth. Lots of blood. She was a mess. That’s a tricky dive, and if some other asshole adjusts the springboard between your dives and you forget to check because your coach is yapping at you to hurry up, or you’re nervous about the competition, it can totally throw off your aim. Yeah, fail, but really not cool.
in 7 years of competitive diving, I never once forgot to adjust the board. That would be like forgetting to put your suit on.

Just like putting a suit on is the first step in adjusting to boredom
i know many _former_ divers who are now only swimmers and/or gymnasts because of inverted dives…
I did this once, only managed to come up underneath the board. got really lucky and was able to pull myself out of the pool on my own and only needed some stitches. still a fail nonetheless and it hurts like hell. i hope i never go bald so the scars stay hidden

ugh this was back when the divers thought it was somehow trendy to wear suits designed for competitive swimming and drag reduction therein. Luckily they’ve since given up on that nonsense.
