Short kayaks like that are supposed to do flips, they’re designed so that it is incredibly easy to flip them upright again. Long kayaks are much faster, but can’t turn as quickly, and if you flip one, it’ll be tricky to right it again.
Length has nothing to do with difficulty of rolling up. Short, wide, boxy boats can be harder to roll than long, slim, rounder ones. I’ve surfed waves at least twice this size in my 18′ (5.8 m) long Mariner II, and it is easier to roll after flipping than some short, wide whitewater boats. OTOH, it’s pretty hard to keep going straight down the wave, and no way can I cut back.
totally intentional move, the only fail is: the guy is trying to loop a piece of S**t boat on a pathetic wave. Try that move on a 6ft (12ft face) wave and you’ll WIN
This is a total win. To even try to flip a boat of that size/volume in a wave that small is a win, and the fact that he even got that far is amazing. FAIL BLOG TAKE THIS OFF! Sorry to revisit a dead thread.
That’s not a fail, that’s a wave loop!
wave win
I was just going to type that!
U ARE SO RIGHT!!!!!!!!
ITS A WIN WIN GAME
’tis indeed.
That’s a surf pop-out, or wave loop.
Ok, I would have called it a sommersault, but it’s definitely not a fail!
People who don’t paddle but comment on paddling technique = fail
People who paddle = fail
you=fail
Who is this “You” you speak of?
that’s a nice wave
but an old boat, a wave sport, but what kind?
This entry is a fail! The action depicted in the photo is not a fail.
Yeah… you really need to paddle to talk smack here. This guy is surfin’ and probably lovin’ every minute of it!
Non-FAIL!
Wave WIN!
