The snake in the photo is a carpet python. They’re typical fanged, in front. The photographer just snapped the photo before he got a good hold on.

Here’s the story; he does snake handling as a hobby, people pay him to remove snakes, anyway, he decides he wants to do something for the paper to inform people more about snakes and how they’re generally not dangerous if you leave them alone.

So, he got the carpet snake there and was showing it off so they could get some pictures for the article, the carpet snake got freaked out by all the people and cameras and stuff and bit my dad on the face.

It’s non-venomous and merely left some small holes, like pin-pricks, that quickly disappeared.

So, that’s how it went down. It’s a real snake being handled by a professional that got freaked out because there were lots of people around taking photos of it.

It’s straight like that because the picture was taken just as the snake had lunged across and bit down; perfect/fluke timing.

It made the front page of the newspaper!
