  1. starhound says:

    Oh God… o_O
    It’s fantastic.

  2. effbomb says:

    Photoshop.

    • People Fail says:

Your life is photoshopped. You know not every thing in life is photoshopped.

    • C says:

If that’s photoshopped then I’m impressed! It would take hours to get a cut that close so as to avoid all the water…
Well, it passed my scrutiny anyway.

      • Alltat says:

Not really. You can make the program automatically find the edges for you. If the original picture is of a higher resolution than the one you post, any mistakes will disappear in the compression anyway.

The relevant thing here is of course that they would notice that the two sections were off long before getting this close, and definitely before actually connecting the two halves… which somehow happened to line up perfectly for one beam to go across.

        It’s a good photoshop, but it’s hardly a fail.

        • dragyngirl says:

          You’re brilliant. And you win.

This would be a VERY unlikely occurrence; Think about how many engineers and other people would have worked on planning something as crucial as a bridge meeting in the center….

Even if one person messed up, all the rest would be able to deduct what the error was.

People forget that bridges are first built on paper. And that numbers don’t lie.

  3. Phill says:

    “Photoshop”

Hence “thanks to fark”. You fail.

  4. S says:

Hehe..it may be photoshopped…but seriously if that REALLY happend…that would SUCK

    • Dan says:

IT’s probably something that you would see happening long before you put the final bit in

      • dude says:

However, if there were two separate contractors involved the workers my have simply used the measurements given even though they knew it was off. They just wanted to rub it the the upper’s faces!

  5. honse246 says:

lol photoshoped but stil their probly like WTF!!!!!

  6. mike says:

Nope not photoshopped… its the camera angle smart people

  7. Jon says:

Funny, if its real, thats a very expensive “oh crap” kind of moment, some ones getting fired

  8. Sylderon says:

    Obvious fake, hence fail.

  9. Andrew says:

It is the camera angle. The bridge the ppl are on is slightly lower than the other side. Really only a foot or two. As soon as the beams are riveted together, the tephlon on top of the columns will expand allowing the lower side to be lifted slightly, and shrink on the higher side so the two sides connect. But in order for the beam to look like it extends from one side to another, that part is photoshoped.

    • Anonymous says:

wow, you have no idea what you’re talking about.

even if we ignore the fact that it’s obviously fake:
-the piers are very close together, which is unlikely
-ordinarily, all the girders would be the same length, which they are not
-by the time the deck is poured or placed, all steel is fully bolted
-by “tephlon” I assume you mean “teflon”, and by “teflon”, I assume you mean “neoprene”, which some bearings may be made of. it will not allow that much movement, especially not vertically

      you fail.

      civil engineering FTW

      • rael says:

Exactly right…..and I do “work on bridges”.

      • Anonymous says:

        haha ur hilarious!

      • beep says:

i almost had as much fun laughing at civil engineer dude skewering stupid previous comments as laughing at (rather obviously fake) photo!

      • madcow says:

        Yeah, but it’s still funny.

      • Sylderon says:

        Engineers, wewt!

      • HURRRRRsucks says:

whhooooo caaaaaares dood?! its a website.

      • uradumass says:

doubt you know what your talking about. do YOU kno what was going on with that bridge?

        • zephalis says:

“If it walks like a duck and talks like a duck, it’s probably a duck.”

The guy claims to know civil engineering and talks like a civil, so knowing that is likely his job or that of a friend. Maybe you should look up parts of post that you don’t understand, in this case civil engineer.

He said what was going on with the bridge…read first…write post…read again…send post.

Again, “if it walks like a duck and talks like a duck, it’s probably a duck.”

‘dur…i don get wat u sed cuz ur smerteer den me so im gon just call u a dumass’

  10. Anonymous says:

did you work on bridges before

  11. Anonymous says:

wow, one intelligent person in the list of comments! Totally fake photo. They would have realized WAY before they got that much “done” (deck poured, steel beams placed) that there was problem. Photoshop – success, common sense of people to left most of the comments – FAIL!!

  12. ever heard of utilitarianism? says:

your comments all fail except for that one guy.

    • John says:

the one? who made the comment? sometime in the past?

      • dude mann says:

obviously he’s talking about that one guy… he made a comment on the page with all the comments, how did you not understand?

        • OASSO says:

You dont mean the guy with the one comment do you? No Logic FTW

          • Sparky, Attention Whore/One-Liner Feeder/Lemming/One Who Is Wondering If It Is Not Incorrect To Believe That I Am Allowed To Possess A Beef Patty With Some Curd On It says:

I can clear this up: It was the guy who made the comment about this fail…the one that used words in his comment. On Failblog on this page. Got it now?

  13. slyda71 says:

hate to ruin everyone’s fun but I believe this bridge is in Virginia. I have seen this picture in a museum in Norfolk. So Actually this is a real fail.

  14. haakondahl says:

Fake. No matter what else, the darkness of the shadows cast by the deck upon the girders is different between halves of the photographs. This could be “real” if for some reason the image were washed out on one side, and the balance (or brightness/contrast/whatever) adjusted selectively. Unlikely.

It could also be real if there were two different suns shining that afternoon. This explanation is also supported by the different ANGLES of the shadows (of different darkness).

    Not tephlon.

    Failshop.

  15. Anonymous says:

I soo want this as a screensaver at work : )

  16. albert says:

    legos ftw

  17. madcow says:

    Omg, ANGLE FAIL!!!

  18. A non-Imus says:

See also the gratuitous use of the clone stamp in the background.

  19. brent says:

    photoshop.

however the bridge across the murray river at yarrawonga does this. is a bridge across the state line – and each half was built by each state.

  20. nate says:

THIS IS AN ADD IN AN INTERIOR DESIGN MAGAZINE…

  21. anonymous coward says:

    caps-lock off fail

  22. explosions says:

This happens to me all the time in “Roller Coaster Tycoon.” They just need one of those swervy pieces to complete it.

  23. Kia says:

    Most obviously fake.
But Fail Bridge for the WIN!

  24. anon says:

hey it’s the bridge to nowhere!

  25. Rasmus says:

Even if it’s the camera angle, it’s still a fail as the right side of the bridge is higher than the left side of the bridge.

  26. Mikey D says:

It’s a model. If you look at the right hand side of the picture you can see the tip of the finger holding it in place.

  27. Geoff says:

OSHA fail…none of those people are wearing traffic vests, life jackets, or a harness, and they’re definitely within 6′ of the unprotected edge…except that one guy by the truck, but he still doesn’t have a traffic vest.

Oh yea, and the picture’s totally a fake. Anyone who thinks they would even set the forms for two piers that out of line (or that close together) is nuts, much less actually build the piers and set the steel in place…and then see the steel misaligned and still build the forms for the deck and pour it.

    Sheesh.

  28. SunKing says:

    Bridge was in Florida

  29. HURRRRRsucks says:

    more like thx to photoshop

  30. scofield says:

    close call…

  31. hacksign23 says:

umm… that looks like it’s from robot chicken lol

  32. I don’t care what anyone says this is real…………..people are that dumb

  33. LD0ne says:

oh shit we really went wrong somewhere…

  34. Bob says:

If this is real, alot of people are getting fired.

  35. beansandsyke says:

im pretty sure this happened in florida. build a bridge didnt line up. had to start over.
    seriously. im gonna google it

  36. Macscotts says:

You are now crossing the Fail Bridge.

  37. phil says:

two pillar with that distance? Smart angle and then compressed

  38. ImSoSmart, Don'tYouAgree? says:

    fake.
What kinda bridge is this anyway? two lanes without any kind of seperation in between?

  39. Mike Kirby says:

This is the best comments thread I’ve ever seen.

  40. Kagura Sohma says:

Uh, hate to ruin all you peoples’ fun, but quite frankly, who CARES about any of the stuff you were arguing about?
To the spelling argument: Maybe people KNOW how to spell stuff, but they accidentally type stuff wrong and actually have lives so therefore don’t go back and check it over. It’s called a typo. Besides, that’s the beauty of the internet! And anyway, it’s a stupid argument and who cares if stuf iz speld rite or nawt?
To the ongoing is-it-real argument: Does it matter if it’s real or not? The bottom line is, it’s funny and that’s all there is to it.
Glad I could help clear up your childish stupidity :)
    ~Kagura Sohma~

  41. nolan says:

    tax dollar !!!!!!!!!!!

  42. stef says:

    a bridge too far…

  43. ajdaprince says:

    - epic face palm -

  44. kalle says:

Something that’s funny, beside the picture, is that people use comments to argue. Someone here doesn’t even comment the picture:P

If the picture is real it’s f***ing hilarious!

  45. Blackrose says:

Well what truly amazes me is the length of time that has elapsed from the first coment about this mystery bridge till now….it is like a good art work…at least it gets people commenting.

  46. Blackrose says:

    oops…and speaking of spelling….haha…I meant ‘comment’…..

  47. PanaMV says:

When I grow up I want to be an engineer just like those guys and build bridges just like that one.

  48. queenanne says:

There was a bridge in belmar, nj that this happened to. is probably that bridge

  49. Danvari says:

That’s an optical illusion. It’s in the angle you think it’s sticking, but it’s not ;p

  50. Brad says:

    Did he die?

  51. JackTheDog says:

    Nice bridge.

  52. phoenixlament says:

Out of a team of engineers and construction guys working on the bridge, I’m sure someone would’ve noticed the error long before that whole segment was built.

It’s probably optical illusion or photoshop

  53. Cody says:

I 100% agree that it is photoshopped and most likely would not hapen in the real world.

  54. Jason says:

lol how did that happen? watch an old guy drive right of that bridge in a wheel chair XD

  55. bottom cough says:

    FAKE

  56. George says:

First up, sorry for answering to such and old thread, but I think I’m the only one who seems to have made a number of observations vital to proving that this image has been edited. Primarily, the shades the left side of the bridge casts on itself is different from the right, the right being longer and darker. Also, the two bridge piers visible in the picture are disturbingly close to each other. That could mean two things; either the bridge is too small or this image has been edited. In the first case, you’d think that while building a quarter-of a-mile long bridge you’d see that the two sides won’t meet long before you get them that close. Plus, it would be unbelievably stupid if the engineers decided to connect the two sides, as displayed in the picture. That rules out option 1, and we’re left with only one: It was edited.

PS. You can also tell it’s a bit fishy by noticing abnormal cuts to the waves (upper-right corner).

  57. that’s our taxes hard at work!

  58. Gameguy602 says:

    reminds me of a joke…
When England was looking to build the tunnel under the english channel they were seeing what sort of deals they could get with other countries to get it done. Japan said “We will build the bridge for 1,000,000 dollars, gaurantee 100% accuracy, and be done in 2 months.”
The U.S. said ” We can gaurantee 75% accuracy, do it for 750,000 dollars, and be done in 1 month.”
Soviet Russia said “we can do it for free, with 0% accuracy, in two weeks. Worst case scenario, you have 2 tunnels.”
(yes I know japan’s currency isn’t U.S. dallors, that’s how the joke went when I heard it.)

    • Gameguy602 says:

crap, calling spelling fail on myself for the whole “dallors” thing. should have been dollars

    • Gameguy602 says:

augh!! the “bridge” in the japanese offer should be tunnel! god darn it I should have proof read it better!

  59. re says:

    RIGHT
    LANE ENDS
    MERGE LEFT

    …fixed

  60. deelio says:

    Escher bridge…WIN…

  61. What i do not realize is actually how you are now not really much more well-appreciated than you may be right now. You’re so intelligent. You understand thus significantly on the subject of this matter, produced me personally believe it from so many varied angles. Its like women and men aren’t interested unless it?s one thing to accomplish with Lady gaga! Your individual stuffs great. At all times maintain it up!
